Going back to 00,000

My Rallye Odometer is at around 97,000.

I thought about taking the speedo cable, hooking it up, and spinning it till it hits 00,000.
Hoping this doesn't hurt anything.

I also recall many moons ago; that someone said there's a ink that tints the first number once it turns over past 100,000.

I would like to avoid that if that's true. Can anyone verify this?

If anybody has info on going back to 00,000, I would like to hear how you did it and results.

Easily done & often done with entire rebuilds
 I just pop out the odometer drum & spin the section needed to return to zero & pop it back in .
 Yes there is an ink pad that sits on the highest # from the factory & discolors the high # wheel

Yeah I got 70 something thou on my odometer and would like to take her to zero with the new EVERYTHING.

Aren't your odometer numbers discolored?  Mine weren't that bad but they were still yellowed.  I had mine redone and told the rebuilder specifically NOT to zero out the odometer.  They are only original once.

Yeah, I think the beginning of the movie Used Cars was the dealership rolling back odometers.

it is stupid simple , unbolt the speedo for the housing , the drum with the #s is clipped in on both sides with retainer , remove the drum , this will allow you to rotate each drum next to the one you want to change so it takes a couple of minutes to reset to zero & clip it back into place in the speedo . the first [highest drum will be discolored , if you have to sell the car the the milage can be legally registered as unknown being as the car is 40 years old , or you can document the original milage & date & add the new milage from the reset . . I had an old 82 Slant 6 truck , used when I bought it & I drove it for 5-6 years & put 150k miles on it , or 200k kms , who know haow many times the odometer has been around 300k 400k , 500 k  :dunno:

Chryco does it again!

I must have lost a clip on one side of my drum hence it would hang down. Problem now identified, now I just have to get a new clip as I've already reset my odometer. Thought something wasn't right.

I promise I won't send the odometer police to Panama!!!

:iagree: I had mine apart during a dash rebuild and accidentally dropped my drum out. Got it back in fine but oddly after a couple hundred miles the left, highest, number is halfway  between 2 and 3. Figure I will fix it next time around.
