Faded Odometer numbers, non faded trip Odometer...just like mine.

Wonder why that happens?

The trip odometer might be shielded from the sun a little more in that possition.

Would soaking them in something like Evaporust get rid of the yellowed fade?
What could make them back to new looking before I re-assemble?

EvapoRust will remove the stencil.  Call one of the gauge restoration places and see if they would just re-number the odometer for you.

Mine not faded yet  :P

Mine are all discoloured like daley/challenger's and yours TC. Is it possible all numbers are coloured once the mileage rolls over 100,000?

Easily done & often done with entire rebuilds
 I just pop out the odometer drum & spin the section needed to return to zero & pop it back in .
 Yes there is an ink pad that sits on the highest # from the factory & discolors the high # wheel

Does the ink pad dry out after 42 years?

yes it does , probably just lasts long enough to discolor the 1 on the first roller

I'm glad I took my Odometer out to check it.

When I opened it, the worm gear that spins the trip odometer and the milage odemeter, was broke in half

Darn!
Delay of game!
I was just getting ready to put all the dash back together.

I hope they aren't slow in getting it back to me.
Sending it out early this upcoming week.

Topcat, is California a title state, in other words are you required to hold a current title on your Plymouth?

The reason I ask is (as an example) my car came from Michigan along with its title in order for me to transfer ownership. In Alabama i'm legally exempt from having to title a 1970 model year vehicle so there is no need for me to transfer my vehicle's title.

If I did have to transfer title, there's a box stating "Vehicle exceeds odometer limitations" which is checked on my car's Michigan title as the odometer has, in fact, rolled over 100,000 miles.

I'm just wondering if you'll run into any issues as your car is only at 97,xxx? :dunno:

Of course, it's a non-factor if you do not need a title. :thumbsup:

Yes, you hold the title of the car as long as vehicle is paid clear by the bank.
I recall there is an exceed limits but I'm not a 100% sure. Been a while since I avoid the DMV like it's a flu.

after reading this post I took my spare cluster/speedo appart to see how easy it was to turn it back to zero. The ink pad was still wet on mine. (1970 speedo)  I was thinking about turning mine back to zero as I am installing a new drivetrain.
