vibration under heavy acceleration
« on: August 27, 2012 - 07:40:58 PM »
Hello everyone I am having an issue tracking down a vibration in my challenger. I am running a 440 with a 727 and 3.23 posi. The car vibrates quite strongly only under heavy acceleration (above 3/4 throttle) in second gear and will vibrate until shifting into 3rd at which time the vibration disappears. It does not seem to vibrate in first gear at similar rpm ranges nor does it vibrate when revved up in neutral. I just had the drive-line re-balanced with zero change to the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When you replaced the shaft did you get new straps for the shaft?

Sounds like an unbalanced driveshaft, although the tranny can show symptoms as well.

I'd take it to a driveline shop and have them test it up to 3k rpm to determine the trueness. If no problems then off to the tranny shop.

Maybe check the simple things first like lugs, brakes, etc

73restomod: Yes I did change the straps when I put the driveline back in.
HP_Cuda: Definatly not a driveline issue, I had it fully re-balanced and checked and after re-installing it into the car there was no noticeable difference.
Chryco Psycho: I have yet to check the pinion angle I will do that and see if it is out of tolerance

the pinion should be approx 5* down from the driveshaft , you can buy a cheap angle finder for about $10 @ most tool stores

If you replaced the straps and the driveshaft is gtg, I would have to agree with HP, more than likely a transmission issue.
