Pentastar on lower fender
« on: February 21, 2005 - 04:59:00 PM »
I was just curious on the history of the small pentastar on the lower front fenders.  When I first started on my 71, I believe that it had the gold ones on the fenders but I only think that it was on the passanger side.  (driver side fall off?)  I was just curious on if they came on all cars, on both sides  or just one side or what.  Any help would be appreciated!   :dontknow:

Passenger side, because thats the only one you can see from the curb, when the car is parked.

It started to be placed on the passenger side fender, so it could be viewed by pedestrians. The offical release was February of 1963 and it stood for the 5 Chrysler divisions at that time. Fargo was just rolled into Dodge Trucks so it stood for Plymouth, Dodge, Chrysler, Imperial, and Dodge trucks.

My '69 Barracuda has one... they're on quite a few cars!

Great!  Thanks all!  I will have to put it back on my car.  Do you have the exact measurements of where to put it? Can you still get the gold one?  I saw that Year One has the replica in silver...is that good enough?

I bought mine from YearOne

Lol, I found mine walking to my car after the Chrysler Classic at Norwalk, OH

Anyhow, on the yearone website, they show a gold one and it cost 12.80    http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/headline.asp?hid=120AH5438

I personally would try eBay this one is 10 bucks, but Im sure you can get one for cheaper http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4528528732&category=34204&sspagename=WDVW

For a few years in the mid 90's, D-C reintroduced the pass. side pentastar on passenger cars, but just as an embossed emblem on the lower moulding. I dont know if they still do it, but i've seen them on Intrepids. I'll have to check my wifes 2000 R/T when i get home and see if it's on there.

I see on E-bay that there are two different ones. Metal and Plastic.  I am assuming that the originals were metal? If I remember right, my original one was kind of a thin aluminum type metal.  Maybe I should just put the original one back on with some double-sided sticky stuff. Comments? :dontknow:

I also just noticed that the replica plastic one has a plastic piece on the back that looks like it would go in a hole on the fender.  I didn't have a hole to mount it to.  Thats why I was thinking of the emblem tape to mount it.

If this is for the 71 cuda in your avatar, then it should have the hole, I dont ever remember seeing any e-body that didnt have it(but then again, I mostly look at challlengers) Maybe someone filled the hole with bondo or it could have even been filled when the car was primered(doubt it). If it doesnt have it, then use the tape.

they had a plastic back with the pin that snapped into the fender , the Star was a metal insert into the plastic
there was a repro star available in the 90s as well it is a different design & just sticks on

Thanks  I will have to see if I can even find the old one.  I don't believe that there was a hole in the first place, but I can't remember
(7 years ago when I stripped it down)  Anyways, I think that will do it, if my old one looks decent, I will stick it on.  :)
