Hood Latch with Pins

Trying to put together the latch and release for my hood, going from a standard hood with cable to a hood pin with external release. I have, as far as I know, the correct handle for the release. But I can't get it to come out through the opening of the grill no way no how. It looks like it might have been bent or twisted at some point in time. Any change of getting some good pictures of how the handle is suppose to be in the grill opening?

Also did the hood pin cars still use the safety catch that you have to release after you pull the main release? Seems kind of redundent to have pins plus a safetly, and I have seen hood pin cars with and with out the safety catch.

Not alot, it does look like my bracket though and like other pictures I have seen. A picture looking up from the bottom of the grill though the hand hole is what would really be great.

  there is no cable/main release on my 70.i pull the hood pins and then pull on the lever thru the grille. how about you keep the cable and add the pins,would that work?

Sorry I am not talking about the cable. I am talking about after you pull the pins and pull the release that is in the grill area. Then is their another release that you stick your hand between the hood and the header panel to release.

  yes there is,sorry i forgot about that one.i might have a permanent dent in my head that fits that lever perfect because that lever is a real head hitter..cuda -70

Can anyone tell me if this is the correct release lever for a 1971 Cuda?
