Link isnt working right now, but is the trans in your pic a a t56 viper trans or a ts6060.? And forgive me if I say something stupid, I really dodnt know that much abouth these two trannys. I know they are alot alike, but thought I heard that the ts6060 does not have a tranny mount or a place for a speedo

Its a LS version T56 magnum ( The one they put in the new camaro) . I was gonna go with the TR6060 with mine , The 6060 is a great trans and is almost the same on the outside ,the internals are super strong and is stronger than the T56 Magnum. Major tunnel surgery and the crossmember will need to be cut out in the center too.You will have to modify your mount to make it work. The shifter on the new challenger 6060 tranny is too far back for my standards and I didnt like the idea of no speedo output on the 6060 .I really dont plan on having the car over 750 HP ,so I dont think it matters. As far as no speedo output,I think you might be able to get around it with GPS strope indicator on the driveshaft. http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=75207.195

Why did you decide not to use the TR6060?

The T56 magnum is a TR6060 Trans in hot rodders form. A tr6060 has no slip yoke for the drive shaft it's a unique bolt on item, the shifter is remote mounted to the outside of the tail housing(not very easy to work with in our cars, and no speedo output as already said.

So the T56  magnum was born to solve all of these problems, it has 2 speedo outputs one cable one electric depending on your speedo choice. A slip yoke and 3 internal shifter locations. I also forgot they plugged  the hole for the skip shift selanoide on the 6060.

You can get 2 differant gear sets one has a lower first and a .05 6th or a more standard first and a .75 6th gear and ether ford or Chevy in inpute splines.

Is there a company that sells the T56 and everything that would be needed to bolt it to a 6.4 in a 71 cuda?
Also, What is the Viper trans, I know people are using them..I'm going for simplicity, but still want a good 6 speed

I'm not aware of anybody that makes a kit for e body's and a 6- speed. Americanpowertrain.com offers most all the parts you will need except the new crossmember.
That you will have to custom make.

The Viper trans up to 2008 is a T56, 09 and up is T6060. The T56 version uses a slip yoke. The T6060 uses a fixed yoke, and either one will require a custom driveshaft. To convert the speedo for either you'll need either an aftermarket gauge or a conversion box (cost about 300). The T56 viper box will readily handle 550+ foot pounds. If you replace the 3-4 shift fork and add billet shift keys the shifting will improve. The real key to getting any T56 to handle stupid torque is by shimming all the clearances to the minimum amount, 700 foot pounds is easy mode. A magnum T56 is just a blueprinted T56.

You can buy a TR6060 from junkyards for about $1500. I didn't want to use the remote shifter since it is too far back), so I got on eBay and found this shifter for about $100; it is made of Hurst components with a custom housing. All you have to do is remove the remote shifter plate and bolt this one on, which moves the shifter about 9" forward.

Better make sure you get that 6060 because that one is not from a Challenger it could be a ford tr6060. :dunno:

I've installed a beefed 2001 Viper T56 in my 71 Challenger.  I got mine from Geoff Gerko at Gerko Enterprises in Lancaster, California.  He has made me a custom aluminum transmission crossmember that bolts to the factory 4 bolt holes, has excellent ground clearance, and allows you to use 3 inch pipes.  He'll make them out of steel as well.

We're using my car to design the upper brace. (The part of the steel frame you have to cut to get the T56 in.)  It allows you to still use all 4 factory bolt holes.  Once this is finished, this part should fit all E-bodies, and you won't have to fabricate this part yourself.  I think he will manufacture slightly different ones for those who run a slim version of the reverse lockout solenoid, or no RLS at all.  It should be finished this month sometime.

Any details on this? Is he going to offer a kit?
