With sadness, I have to disagree. A lightweight, high performing V8 retro Cuda is what we, the c-c members want. Most of the buying public couldn't care less, though. They will think of a little tin box Cuda as a car with a great name, never realizing what it might have been.

:iagree:  Dave, I do agree with what you have said.  But the thing I don't like is if the autoblog article is true, the Cuda will be out of reach of the common guy being an SRT8 replacement, if that article holds true.  I'm all for a light nimble car with V8 power.  I actually will prefer a car with less power that can handle vs a straightline car.  Much more versatile/safer car IMO.

If I'm not mistaken, the Barracuda/Cuda back in the 70's was priced less than the Challenger.  If slated to be an SRT8 car, my guess is that it'll cost $40k plus, which will turn me off.  Make it a $25k-$30k car, then I say Bingo, good seller.

It all depende what they are looking for.  Volume or halo car status.

I'm glad they are using a new platform.  Retro can only go so far.  Even the Mustang is stepping far away from the retro design for 2014.

If the Camaro stays the way it is after 2014, it'll look like a used car sitting in the new car line up at the dealership, IMO.

An Autoweek magazine I got about a month ago was saying that the Chrysler was going to end up having three cars under the SRT badge.  Viper, Barracuda, and an unnamed/undecided third car.   From what little I have seen about the Barracuda, it doesn't look like it will have much, if any retro styling.  Speculation on the third car was something along the lines of the Demon concept roadster that was out a couple years ago.  So you get a V-10, V-8, and V-6 car under the badge.   :clueless:

That pretty much describes the new Dodge Dart. It's nice for what it is, but why bring back a name from the past if you don't plan on any retro ques?   :screwy:

Gotcha. I think I missed your original point completely.

Ok,  let's make a light weight, low cost, 426 Hemi or supercharged V10 powered, 'Cuda.

Make it hold 5 people, big trunk, and look exactly like a 1970 or 1971 'Cuda.

Did I miss anything?

Nah, I probably didn't say it right, always at a loss for the right words.  Your a pretty perceptive guy.  :grinyes:

My guess will still stand.   They will probably get a sporty version of the fiat 500,take off the scorpion emblem and replace it with a fish.

I hope it's not going to be the same as the 1978-1983 Challenger scenario with a 4 banger and a ****e box!

I just put money down on a new bike so I'm hoping any new Barracuda looks nothing like the old one, makes it that much easier to ignore.  There's a reason these old muscle/pony cars have such a following.  Sometimes automakers just get it right.  With all the cool styling queues they could 'borrow' from the Barracuda's heritage I don't know why Chrysler wouldn't.  But I do have two old cars to finish and will soon have another bike to ride so I don't need anything else anyway so its just as well.

I hear what you are saying.   I like to buy the car that I want and drive it a long time.   That being said, I really like my Challenger.   Buying myself a new car just isn't in the cards, particularly because it is my wife's turn for the next new car.

Kind of mixed feelings there.   I would love to see a great new 'Cuda made,  but it would be a few years before I would buy one.

From reading between the lines here's my prediction: Barracuda ( Cuda name not available to CJD) will REPLACE the Viper. Why, because the ONLY reason they are even building a FINAL Viper version V10 is because they were stuck with a warehouse FULL of the engines when they discontinued the Viper when they went bankrupt. You see no mention of Vipers in any of this, the V10 is dead, 6.2 Supercharger V8 is for the SRT BARRACUDA and look for a revamped Viper, nothing like the original, just like Dart ( and the coming Hornet)! Challenger will get a facia change in 2014 and will continue thru 2015 MY, and they may slice 2-3" off, but it will all come from the cabin area, maybe drop to 4-seater from the 5, dunno. Presently I'm waiting to see when/if they build the 2013 Challenger in SRT trim, as they will have to at least remove the DODGE from the center taillight ( something I've done on BOTH my last and present Challengers), cause if it's blank or smooth finish, will be on my mod list. Never gonna be a 426 modern Hemi version, tho the aluminum block may finally become standard, just for weight reduction/mpg improvements. ;)
