With Edelbrock alum heads you need to use 3/8 push rods it is listed on their site. They used 5/16 in my 440 and I had some bend and I broke a lifter. Good thing it happened a 1/2 a block from my house. But when I went to fix it I found out the push rods were to small. I went to Edelbrocks site and found that they come with 3/8 rods for the Performer heads. Mine was a six pack so they had a roller cam cut to specs. Then used the wrong size rod because of the lenght they had some 5/16 the lenght they needed. But it really need to be 3/8 to work with the big heads. You might need to use a different rocker too. You do not want it to blow the first time you start it.

Why would I want to change my rockers? I have heard mostly good things about them and that was what was recomended from the builder. As far as the push rods I saw that it says 3/8. The people I talked to about the rods didn't seem to have a issue with the 5/16. Every other rod choise was 5/16 for my app so thats what I ordered. Don't know what to do about that. Maybe I'll get lucky and they have sent me 3/8 rods with the 5/16 ball and cup.

of all the Alum rockers T&D & Harlands are the best ones so no I would not swap them .
The Pushrods are made to order from Smiths so if you have cam & spring specs when you order them you get different wall thickness / strength pushrods made , 5/16 has nothing to do with strength , a 3/8 could be weaker than an HD 5/16 one

Thanks for the peace of mind CP.  I was thinking about that same issue as far as strength goes and in my thoughts the only way I could see a bent pushrod was if it bound up,was to long or the geometry was off. If everything was right in the world I suppose in theory you could use a toothpic as a pushrod :icon16:  I have to belive that a pushrod making place wouldn't steer me wrong and I'll hope for the best.

simple math will tell us that a larger diameter tube is stronger just based on the diameter but the 5/16 heavy wall tube can still be stronger than a 3/8 thin wall tube

The engineering would tell you that the equal strength 3/8 rod would be lighter though...  :2cents:

hey chryco

whats your thoughts on back cutting the intakes??i had mine done when the machine shop was checking/setting up my edelbrock rpm heads,,picking them up friday to reassemble the motor over my week off,,thanksgiving holiday,,rumor has it thats good for a 5% flow increase,,along with my port cleanup..310-315 cfm flow ???based upon 290 stock...
