bolting manual brake master cylinder to power brake booster
« on: September 11, 2012 - 05:07:18 PM »
Had a '74 manual brake car disc/drum, and bought a '73 shell with power brakes disc/drum.  It didn't have the master cylinder though.  Can I just swap the master cylinder? Seems there should be a rod sticking out of the booster to go into the master cylinder that isn't there.

Also I only have a jumpy 8"-10" vaccuum, is it worth it to even try to keep the power brakes? Don't have a problem with manual brakes, just figured the booster is there, why not?

The manual brake master has studs sticking out the back and uses nuts inside the car to attach it.  On a power brake car, the studs are on the booster.  The masters are going to be different so they won't swap.  All the linkages are probably different too.  There should be an adjustable rod sticking out of the booster.  Post a picture of it.

The bolt pattern is the same though. I just figured(haven't tried yet) that the studs could be pressed out.

I doubt the bore size inside the master is the same.  Reman masters are cheap.  I'd get the correct one.

Well...it seems to have worked okay. Pressed the studs out of the master and bolted it to the booster.
