Some Lovin' for the Lady's Man!
« on: September 13, 2012 - 07:57:31 AM »
So I'm pretty sure my wife - Oh10Challenger - won't be on the board here in the next day or two.  She's down in SC visiting her folks for the week.  She had a great, relaxing week at the beach - while I worked two jobs at home!  :-P

But I took the opportunity ALONE with the Challenger  :naughty:  to do some things I think the wife will be pretty happy about!

I started with a Window Tint by a professional shop in town.  I then added a Flowmaster Delta-Flow 40-series muffler.  The other day I installed a short-ram intake system that I picked up off of ebay.  Yesterday I replaced the intake temperature sensor harness clip that I broke when I installed the intake...

 :bricks1:

Tonight I work, but tomorrow I'm done in the early afternoon.  So I'll be coming home, giving her a solid bath, and then using a claybar on the paint to get rid of water-stains and such from the previous owner (who was in-fact Dodge - it was a manufacturer's car.)  She had mentioned in the past wanting to paint some interior trim pieces to match the body color: door handles, switch plates, A/C vents...  I ordered the paint from PaintScratch.com and they've shipped it, but it won't get here until Monday.   :-[  So we'll have to take care of that later on.

I'll get some pics up tomorrow after her much-needed bath!

Ah, that's awful sweet of you.  :2thumbs:
She'll notice the tinted windows right away.  She'll also notice the Flowmasters upon starting the Challenger; hopefully she'll appreciate the new sound.
- Short-ram intake system - is that a cold air intake?  She'll like the extra power and sound.
If your wife likes power, recommend looking into Super Chips Flashpack (or another vendor's computer chip).  I did the Super Chip to my '04 Ram 5.7 Hemi - what an amazing difference.

Anyway, good job taking care of the wife

Yeah - short-ram is basically a "cut-off" cold-air-intake.  The filter is just under the hood instead of down in the wheel well - I'm going to let her try out the short-ram first and then add the rest of the cold air pieces (90* bend, tubing down into the fender/bumper, relocate filter) and see which she likes better.  I might also wrap the intake with header wrap to keep engine heat out - THAT will actually help to preserve power as engine temps rise.  I mostly did the intake for sound - to compliment the new muffler.

We don't really want to chip the computer because it forces us to use premium gas.  She drives 500 miles a week, and the extra cost would frankly suck.

But yes - I think she'll be happy.  She got a surprise baby-shower at the beginning of the week, so this should be a nice follow-up surprise!

Yeah - I was royaly pissed when that thing snapped...  Luckily the local dealer had a pigtail in stock - took me 20 minutes to fix it up - looks factory even.

She'll be happy - she wanted the tint, and has always talked about a muffler/exhaust.  Unfortunately it doesn't sound as good as I had hoped - I can't really tell a difference.  But then again I don't drive it much, so she might notice the difference more than me.

She also nonchalantly mentioned how she wished it were clean again just as she was leaving...

Women...  So subtle...  :)

Jeff,

That's a mighty nice thing to do for your wife.   :2thumbs:

As for the intake, I can only notice a sound difference when I really get on the gas. Like I'm in 3rd gear at 2500-3000 RPM's or so. I like it though.   :bananasmi

That temperature sensor was a P.I.T.A. to deal with.   :stomp:  I came out of it fine, but trust me, cuss words were emitted from my mouth a plenty.     :swear:

I think the only way to have a major impact on the exhaust sound is to get a CAT back system. I really haven't heard one yet that wins my heart, but I keep comparing the sound to my old Chally, and I guess that isn't fair. It's just that all these CAT back systems cost you into 4 figures for something you don't really know you'll like. That's what has me on "pause".   :grinyes:

Yeah the shop kept suggesting a cat-back, but it's SO much funny for a freakin' bent pipe...  I can't justify it.

My brother took his 6-banger mustang to a local exhaust shop in Virginia Beach and they basically made something for him.  I think it cost him around $200 bucks and it sounds NASTY.  It's a bit loud for my taste (and for Ash driving that much a day it'd probably drive her crazy.)

I still think Ash will notice the difference more than I, plus I also think it sounds better OUTSIDE than it does inside - the Challenger really soaks up outside noise!
