Any News or Experiences With New Passon 5 Speed?
« on: September 13, 2012 - 11:45:01 PM »
I know a lot of folks here were following the progress of the new Passon Performance Mopar 5 speed but haven't heard anything about it for a while.  Their website has a page on it, but no pricing etc.  Plus, I think there was some initial teething problems maybe?  Anybody heard anything about this?  The Tremic TKO600 looks like a viable option, plus vendors are saying they now have a 'perfect' fit kit that requires no cutting, etc.  I like the things I hear about Passon though so wanted to consider them an option, too.

Thanks, Jim

I spoke with Jamie last month.  He siad they are still several months away from full scale production.

I feel that they won't be available until next year.

I still plan on getting one when they do hit the streets, but for the mean time I am putting in the 4sp i currently have.  :walkaway:

I bought a TKO-600 almost 2 years ago and the storry was exactly the same then with both the Passon and a new one from Keisler. Now it seems that neither of these have made it to market yet? and they are still saying a year? Wow, I was really thinking about waiting for one 2 years ago because they were suppose to be done shortyly, glad I didn't wait.....

Wow!  Incredible read Ragtop, thanks for the link.  Gotta feel sympathy for Jamie during all of this, and credit to him for changing business plans regarding spare parts when potential customers voiced concern about them.  The trans looks gorgeous in the picture and if indeed we're getting close I would definitely wait for the Passon unit especially in the Roadrunner where max HP & TQ are in the plans.  I would consider a Keisler unit if I change out the auto in the Barracuda, but if the price is close I'll go with the Passon unit.

I priced out a Keisler SS700 for my B Body....by the time you get done it is the same price (maybe even a bit higher) than the unit from Passon.....I'm on Passon's waiting list...

I'm not surprised and another thing I like about the Passon unit is that you can change it out with a std 18 spline 833 w/o any other changes except shifter & linkage which I already have.  So if I have to go with the stock unit for a short while no problem since these cars seem to be lifetime projects anyway.

You already have the shifter? Wouldn't the 5 speed would be a different shifter assy.

I meant I already had all the 4 speed parts including the shifter, rods, etc. so I could install that with minimal investment and upgrade to the Passon unit when its available.

Do you mean the shift handle?? I would think the shift assy would be different on the 5 speed.

Yes the shifter assy is different as is the linkage.

I have a question, if you already have a 23 spline clutch disk, I assume that you will need to change that out for a 18 spline one right?

Correct.....you need an 18 spline disk for the new unit.

My advice to you is to call Jamie.  He's a great guy and will be honest with you.  I thought the first lot was going out very soon.  If not, I'm not sure what happened.

I heard the same thing...I think he said he was starting to contact the first 30 people on the waiting list.
