This site is great.
So this 4sp OD can be a reality in my car for about half the price of a whole new 5sp. Sounds like a real option to me, especially since it is already available. I dont race my car, and I am in the habit of shifting straight from 1st to 3rd, for two reasons:
First, second seems like wasted effort, since the gears are so close, you need to shift again about 1 second later. Also, my 2nd gear synchro is a little worn- so I sometimes miss the shift or have to baby it in (maybe one time every four or 5 shifts).
I never want to drive on the highway because a true 60mph is about 4000 rpm. Nerve racking after a while. With the .80 od that drops to 3200 rpm, which is a HUGE difference. The .70od @2800 rpm would be better still, but maybe not for another $2000
Anyone know what Passon charges to install the kit if I ship them my tranny, and I guess they will send me back the old gears if I want them back? Might as well hold on to them. You never know.
PS and correct me if I am wrong but I see nos 18 spline TO bearings on ebay for about $100. Clutch kits are $300 for the ram brand which is what I am running now.
