My Cuda has joined me in Montana!
« on: September 15, 2012 - 03:59:49 PM »
Hi all,
I just recently got my 73 Cuda out of the garage in MN where it has been in storage.  It is now sitting in my garage in Montana.  :woohoo:  I built the car when I was a senior in high school, showed and drove it for a couple years, and then moved to Montana.  Life got in the way and 30 years later I'm excited to get it back on the road again.  Everything is original-340, 727, with just minor mods to it.  With only 41K on the odometer, it is my lowest mileage but oldest vehicle.  Looking forward to getting to know the car again.  Looks like my first projects will be replacing the rusty fuel and brake systems so it will go and stop again.  I'm sure I'll have lots of questions on the journey back to the road again.  I've attached a couple of slightly stained  pics from when it was featured in Hi Performance Cars magazine back in the day.

Welcome!

That is one good looking cuda.
That front spoiler sure does alot for the car.
Really like the white interior with white accents outside!

I really want to see what the car looks like now that it has sat for 30 untouched years.
Was it stored in a garage?  Storage? Barn?

Thanks for the compliments.  My wife has some pics on her phone from when we rolled it off the trailer.  I'll see if I can post a couple of those.  It sat in a fairly tight garage all those years so it still looks good from 20' or so.  It has a few rust bubbles here and there, but nothing too serious.  The white paint has some cracking since it is thicker than the red.  It's hard to tell from the pics, but the white has rainbow flake in it.  All in all, I was surprised at how good it looked after sitting so long.

Post some more pics when you get a chance....I dig the color combo and added spoilers, side pipes have that cool 70's flair.  Nice job.

Love it when people hold on to their cars.

congratulations!

I swear I have seen this car before. Perhaps in a car magazine many years ago.

The Yosemite Sam on it is really hiting a bell in my memory bank.
Whats the history on it?

Here's a couple of pics of what it looks like now.  Not much of a background on the car.  I bought it used in late 1979.  Drove it for 6 months or so.  It spent the next year in the garage being rebuilt.  I used it as a daily driver in the summers for a couple years and took it to quite a few shows.  I went to the Street Machine Nats in Indy in 1981.  That was where I got the photo shoot for HP Cars.  Theme cars were very popular in my car club at the time.  I always liked Yosemite Sam's character.  I can't believe I let it sit this long.  It's good to be working on it again though.

Man, that thing looks great for sitting in a garage for that many years.

Really not what I had expected!

Thanks for the kind replies, everyone.  I still have the front spoiler, but had to remove it to get the car on/off the trailer.  It will definitely go back on before it hits the road again.  I've got a new fuel system and carb kit ordered.  Looking forward to getting it running again.

Welcome to the site! I got a chuckle reading your comment about stopping, when it made me think of the Yosemite Sam cartoon where he's trying to get the dragon to "whoa!"
