Jegs?  They treated me really well with some wheels I needed to return, but I've never bought a crate engine.

I haven't heard good things about the Chrysler-brand crate engines though.  I hope you have done your homework and know what you're getting yourself into.

I haven't heard good things about the Chrysler-brand crate engines though.  I hope you have done your homework and know what you're getting yourself into.

Man, for the price the mopar crate motors sell for, one would think that it would be issue free.

The reason why I'm looking for a crate engine is because, I have the matching numbers 340 for the car and she needs a rebuild. I would hate to see something happen to that engine, so I've decided to take it out crate it up and put it aside. I have decided to go BB, like a 440, 493,500. I would like to be in the 450-500 hp range. There are a lot of different places out there with crates engines at different prices just want to make the right chose the first time, lol. I come from a Chevy back ground so my usual place can't help me out:(

If you go to a bb crate engine, you will need other things like bb trans, pullies, radiator, exhaust. It will become costly, to say the least.  You can do a 408/416 with  a sb combo with the hp level your shooting for. But remember. HP is addicting. 450 500 hp will seem like nothing but a moped on the hiway

Moparal is right, though: you can get 500 hp from a hopped up small block.  You will still have to make some mods (like a torque converter) though.

I have been thinking of going with a hoped up SB,the problem is I'm addicted to torque!!! I love that pulling power. I am going to have to get new exhaust, and build a trans for what ever I go with. Has anyone heard of

I had them build a mild 440 for me for my truck back in 1996, they did a great job. Also just had them build me a 472 Hemi, haven't got it in the car and fired up yet but I expect the same. In both cases I found it was just as cheap to have them build me what I want as to buy a crate. Atcually with the Hemi is was cheaper to have them build one.

They are a little slow some times but I would deal with them again.
