71 challenger from washington state.
« on: September 16, 2012 - 10:44:06 AM »
I just picked up a 71 challenger from an old friend of mine. I tried to buy it 10 years ago from his dad but both my friend and his brother wanted it so I backed off. I then tried to buy it again a few years later and all of a sudden they both still wanted it so I backed off. Then last winter my buddy actually bought it from his dad and after almost a year of doing nothing with it I finally pried it away from him!

It is a 1971 with a 383 and auto trans in it. It has barely been driven in the last 12 years so its running pretty rough but it starts and drives. Interior is all brand new (12 years old but about 500 miles on it) Engine and transmission were put n about 15 or 16 years ago and have about 6k miles on them.

Thank you. My plan is a frame up restoration. I believe the original color was blue, I'm torn between blue with a black stripe or purple with a stripe. Also want the vinyl top back on there.

Welcome!

I see from your engine picture there is  a fender tag still on the car.  If you post the numbers or a clear picture of it, someone should be able to tell you many of the original options the car had from the factory, including the original color.

I looked it up once but that was 7 or 8 years ago so I can't remember the options. I do believe it was a factory ac car.  I'll post up the tag when I get home from work. The vin on the dash is "JH23G1B347623"

The "G" in your VIN indicates the car is an original 318 car. If you post the data plate can tell you more.

Congrats on the new ride.  B5 paint with a white vinyl and blue interior looks fantastic.

Congrats on the new ride.  B5 paint with a white vinyl and blue interior looks fantastic.

This is a winning color combination!   I wouldn't even consider any other color options as the B5 Blue with a White VT is HOT!

My buddy and I rebuilt and cleaned the carb real good and plugged a couple vacuum leaks and now it is running 100% better. Mow I just need to get the dash lights working and it will be doing pretty good.
