Carb way rich at cruising speeds
« on: September 16, 2012 - 07:33:02 PM »
Using a friends wide band today, got my idle adjusted to around 13- 13.5 to 1. Went for a little drive and was getting consistent 3 to 1, even 2 to 1 readings at light cruising speeds. I am thinking the primary jets control this circuit.

My readings are so far off would I get back into range by reducing my primary jet size? Would the power valve have any impact? I have good vacuum at idle @15". My primary jet size is 70.

I have no real dead spots in the carb. I have thought my fuel milage sucked. This would be why.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds strange, possibly the power valve diaphragm is leaking.

I doubt that a fuel/air ratio of 3-1 or 2-1 would ignite in an internal combustion engine using gasoline.  Get another opinion from a different meter!

I thought the same.

Sort of baffled at that o2 reading. Makes no sense. Spend a lot of time on and off cruise, same readings every time. The car seems to be fine, I would have thought with it that rich, it may not even run, just sputter and cough. Not sure

I have a power valve may replace it just to see.

its a Innovate Motorsports handheld, it has a calibrate feature on it to allow for an older O2 sensor. I'll try that, see if something happens.
I agree don't think it could burn fuel that rich. The weird thing is once you are off cruise it goes right back up to 13, 14  to 1.

the PV , main jets & air bleeds for the jet circuit wil all have an effect on cruise , but at 3:1 it should not run at all
