400 buildup
« on: September 19, 2012 - 03:54:05 PM »
I know I have beat this topic to death but now is the time to put a motor together for my Challenger. I have a running 400 engine, I bought some mildly worked 915 heads with 181/214 valves. I was set on using skb240 pistons in whatever overbore it needs(to be determined) but have heard stuff I did not like about them losing their tops or shattering so I want to pick some brains and figure out a good forged piston to run with closed chamber heads and magnum exhaust manifolds. the car has air con too. I am aiming for somewhere around 9.5 to anywhere just below 10. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only forged piston for a stock stroke 400 I could find is a Sealed Power ZWL2387F30 part number. if it will not add a ton to the bill I have a forged 440 crank sitting around that I can make a 451 with. there might be more options for a stroker low deck motor.

If you would carry your but over here, I got some stuff you own, but also some stuff you would love to have.  Look at 440 source site for your pistons. 600 bucks

I was thinking about it in chat and I do get 3 day weekends every other week. I could get a fresh oil change in the truck and haul ass your way and bring the block and crank for machining. I will look at 440source again, I forgot about those dudes. Sure would take care of the air conditioner parts problem. Might need to plan a road trip soon.    :grinyes:

You should start by CC'ing your cylinder heads so you can start to figure your compression ratio.  From there, knowing the stroke and bore (and rod length) we can work on the rest.
