Transmission yoke issues
« on: September 22, 2012 - 06:01:49 AM »
Okay, so I've taken my drive shaft out for some soda blasting to remove some surface rust and the transmission was neutral (I went back to double check that). I started the engine so I could do some servicing, got under the car to pull off the base radiator pipe and saw the transmission yoke was spinning, at that  moment it fell out and shot across the ground.

How is this possible when the car was in neutral? And it was most definitely in neutral.

My first thought was there was some friction in the transmission causing it to spin, but wouldn't that mean when the car is sitting stationary with the engine on in neutral (with the drive shaft in) that friction would still be present and it would be wearing out the parts?

Any ideas?

YEP, it will do that.  Wheels will spin in neutral with the back end off the ground too.

That's awesome news. The thought of transmission issues was not making my day!
