70 challenger hood pins
« on: September 25, 2012 - 03:16:48 PM »
I thought I read somewhere that hood pins weren't added to 70 challengers until Oct. 1969. My 70 rtse challenger was built in Sept. 69. I'm tring to find out if this is correct. I'm in the process of restoring my car and the hood was replaced sometime before I owned it and I'm trying to determine if I need to add hood pins or not.
Does anyone know when they started adding hood pins?

Thanks,
Gabe

I assume you don't have the fender tag or BS?  Since the pins would require a body mod, I would think they'd be on the tag.

Hood pins should be on the tag , I do like the option of locking the hood closed using them
I have an early R/T SE also / late aug build no pins

Yes, hood pins would be an option, regardless of when your build date is.

Thanks for the replies all. I do have fender tag, but no build sheet.
I don't recall seeing anything on the tag that would indicate pins, I'll have to take another look.
Any one know what the code would be?
Is it a seperate code or is in included in a package code like A01 or whatever?

Thanks

J45 is the code for hood pins.  I'm not sure if one of the package codes includes that as well.

My 70 Challenger was built in October of 1969.  It is an R/T with the SE trim (A63, not an R/T SE) and also has the J45 code on my fender tag.

Sometimes a package code won't be on the tag.  A01 for instance isn't on the tag....but separate codes for fender mount turn signals and truck light are on the tag.  Only the codes that required body mods would show up.  I'm sure there are exceptions.

Check out Hamtramck-historical and look at the 1970 dealer data book.

Hood pins are always on the fender tag since the hood had to be drilled.
