and then theres this:

http://www.streetlegaltv.com/news/dodge-secretly-renews-six-pack-trademark/

I hope the muscle car market doesnt die...again! If it does, it will eventually come back, with new technologies. I wouldnt be surprised if my one day future grandson drives a 2045 cuda hover muscle car, with a six pack flux capacitor. He wont even need no stinkin roads.  :roflsmiley:

and PS
I'm sick of hearing people trashing the 4 door charger, like its some sort of bastard child. Its a huge seller! And my wifes 6 cylinder 2012 charger blows the doors off my stockish 440 six pack, so there! Sorry for the mini rant

REALLY -it beats your 440 -Wow time to change the plugs :). I have never been beat by a new/ newer Charger or Challenger - never not even close. I am sure it is comeing though - all good things come to an end. I am one of those that believe the Charger should have been left as a 2 door but I am quite certain the sales would be lesser if it was. Anyways - Nice Cars!!!!!

sorry for the slightly off topic, but I was talking stock vs stock. Now, a stock SRT Charger vs a stock 70-71 Hemi is no comparison. The hemi can not compete. Im not saying I dont love them. Obviously I do. They are just apples and oranges. I dont see any real need to make a car that looks just like the classic. I hope the designers are working with a totally clean sheet, and not trying to copy someone elses design. And as for the names, they can name their new models anything they want, but they would be crazy to name their new car a zebra, or whaleshark or whatever, when they already own the rights to a relatively iconic name like barracuda.
Now, Im sure when and if a new barracuda comes out, it also will totally outperform our classics, in every way. Thats what 45 years in technology advancements will do. And 45 years from now, you can bet my grandson will think of a 2015 barracuda as just as much of a classic as we do about ours.

And yes, if the charger were a 2 door, it would have taken sales from the challenger. Why have two nearly identical (at least functionally) models sitting next to each other on the showroom floor? And 4 doors are big sellers today.
No. I think Chrysler definitely made the right decision about that.

Btw, my son is selling his 2008 Ram to a classmate in college who is buying it with trust funds. Seems his dad (or granddad?) was one of the original designers of the 70 challenger!? Small world.

I think y'all are insane... retro retro retro!  That's what's so cool about the new Challenger, whether its too big or not, it's pretty much a re-designed modern original.  The modern mustangs and camaros, although not as true to their originals, are also retro designs.  Look how popular they are?  It's not just old men that love the retro design believe me,  lots of young kids want it too.
I'll agree that the challenger is in need of a refresh, but certainly not a kill off or a new modernized design.  Maybe that is the direction the barracuda is going, if so it's a shame... with out any retro designed vehicles modern mopar might as well be nonexistent to me.   I guess that's funny coming out of my mouth considering I also own a 2008 charger r/t... They wouldn't just turn their back on the whole retro market though, they would loose so much $$ potential!! The Challenger is a sensation in the aftermarket/performance world because of it's styling.... well i know I wouldn't care for any of their cars if they looked like every other modern cookie cutter piece of crap on the road.  There's a reason no one talks about the modern thunderbird, cougar, GTO, monte carlo, etc... it's because they suck! there's nothing cool looking about them, they have to have retro cues!

Why would selling 2 different 2 door performance cars hurt sales for chrysler?  Look at chevrolet.. they've been selling the corvette and camaro together like hotcakes.  I say keep the challenger and make a barracuda!

Not a valid comparison.  The Corvette and Camaro are 2 different markets.  You can't compare a $30K coupe with a $60+K sports car.  The Barracuda and Challenger would be direct competitors with each other.  Even though they are both Chrysler, they would be stealing market share from each other.  That's one of the reasons why they are killing off the Dodge Grand Caravan (last I heard), and only selling the Chrysler Town and Country.  Why sell 2 similar vehicles under the same corporate umbrella?

As for the retro design, I do not consider the Camaro as retro, merely a modern interpretation with some minor styling cues from the original, which is what I would like to see in a Barracuda, if in fact they do build it.  I love that the Challenger is totally retro, but I still hold the thought that that period is pretty much over.  Again, the next Mustang will not continue the retro design as the past couple model revisions.  I'm okay with modernistic designs with minor cues from the original.

P.S. For what it's worth, I don't like that they used the Dart name again on something that has absolutely no distinction to the original.

As much as we might disagree or not like it, I think retro is on the way out. At least for awhile.
Camaros and vettes are apples and oranges. A major reason GM killed off pontiac was because of duplication. A new firebird would definitely eat into camaro sales. A 2 door charger would be substantially the same car as a challenger. I think the only way the bean counters would allow them to sell a barracuda alongside a challenger, is maybe if the cuda was just some sort of special option package for the challenger, but I dont see that happening.

I was shocked a few years ago when GM dropped pontiac in favor of buick! But then found out buick is a huge moneymaker for them in china. In fact, thats where the general is making much of their money now. Good for GM to be doing well in china, but scary to me here in the US. If things keep going the way they are, north America will no longer be the dominant economy of the world anymore.

Ma Mopar owned by italians. GM selling and making more cars overseas than here. Times are changing.

Why not keep the retro themed Challenger and then sell the two door Barracuda alongside it with a modern theme? That way Mopar fans have one of both generas! I feel like that would be good marketing, but then again I know nothing about marketing I'm an engineer.

What I'm saying is make the barracuda and challenger apples to oranges like you mentioned, but still sell them both much like Camaro and corvette with gm. I would take that over no retro at all!!!

That car is ugly IMO. A 'Cudamaro?  If they really want to build that car, give it it's own name.  :2cents:

I don't think it's ugly, nor do I think it's all that. But it's not a Barracuda, yes. Call it Moray Eel, call it Great White, call it Sturgeon, just not Barracuda.

My understanding Dodge make the 4 Door Charger for the family generatiion.
You get a muscle car with the the convience of the ease of getting in & out of the rear seats with leg room & ease of car seats and It is a big seller.
with lower insurance......
The Chev Monty Carlo is a good looking car but not a family car with 2 or more kids climbing over the passenger seat to exit or enter the car. Car seats, ugh.

My opinion the New School SRT Barracuda would be a big sell if it had Fuel Inj. w/F&B type throttle body six pack with a redesigned shaker.

that thing is horrible!! Chrysler LOVES crapping on its classic and famous name plates!
Just a few recent name plates they have ruined:
The 4 Door Charger.. WTF!?! (yeah I am still ticked about it)
TRUCKS with SUPERBEE stripes.. Jesus!
4 Door Daytonas and Superbees
That mess they made out of the Road Runner concept turd a couple years ago..
The Dart.. again WTF? (secretly a neon with gay grill) although at least the Dart was sold as a 4 door!
The Demon (concept).. stupid looking douche car
The Duster.. they tried to make it an SUV!!!! A "cross over" SUV at that, even MORE lame!!

for crying out loud What is wrong with the people at Chrysler??? Dont they have pictures of the COOL stuff they USE TO build laying around there somewhere?

And now the Barracuda name is about to be smeared all over this family friendly redo of the 80s Wraith looking thing.. WTFingF?!?
Our tax dollars bailed these people out so they could gay up the cool old cars?
As if the 1986 Charger 2.2 wasnt stupid enough back then!!

The Challenger is SITTING THERE!! Do what you did in the 70s, MAKE A REAL BARRACUDA!!
MAKE UP OTHER NAMES FOR YOUR NEW CARS STOP RUINING THE OLD ONES!!!!

ok I am calm now
