sorry for the slightly off topic, but I was talking stock vs stock. Now, a stock SRT Charger vs a stock 70-71 Hemi is no comparison. The hemi can not compete. Im not saying I dont love them. Obviously I do. They are just apples and oranges. I dont see any real need to make a car that looks just like the classic. I hope the designers are working with a totally clean sheet, and not trying to copy someone elses design. And as for the names, they can name their new models anything they want, but they would be crazy to name their new car a zebra, or whaleshark or whatever, when they already own the rights to a relatively iconic name like barracuda.
Now, Im sure when and if a new barracuda comes out, it also will totally outperform our classics, in every way. Thats what 45 years in technology advancements will do. And 45 years from now, you can bet my grandson will think of a 2015 barracuda as just as much of a classic as we do about ours.
And yes, if the charger were a 2 door, it would have taken sales from the challenger. Why have two nearly identical (at least functionally) models sitting next to each other on the showroom floor? And 4 doors are big sellers today.
No. I think Chrysler definitely made the right decision about that.
Btw, my son is selling his 2008 Ram to a classmate in college who is buying it with trust funds. Seems his dad (or granddad?) was one of the original designers of the 70 challenger!? Small world.
