with stock manifolds....no problem at all. 1 bolt and 1 nut hold the starter on  5/8 wrench, then the 2 starter wires. like 9/32 and 9/16 wrench

Cool thanks.  I just read the service manual and it said the exact same thing. About 2 or 3 sentences. Done!

Just harkening back to the nightmare that was replacing multiple starters in a '78 Chevette. About 18" of extensions, 2 elbows, some rubber bands holding the bolt and alot of trial and error.  Not to mention the starter in my old one ton chevy almost breaking a few ribs.  I almost needed a tranny jack for that thing.

Just thought I should mention that headers can make this a real pain in the butt.  The hookers on my car are wrapped around the thing in such a way that when I wanted to swap my positive cable, I had to loosen several bolts just to get enough play to get a nut driver on that 11/32" post.

Cool thanks for the info on the bolt sizes. That will save me a few trips out from under the car and dragging my ass back onto my feet.   I swear gravity seems like it's harder to overcome these days. I am still sore for doing the brake job on my driver the other day.

Lucky for me I have the manifolds.  But now with the new mini starter that is one obstacle out of my way for installing headers which may be my next project..

Yeah I got that car over 100mph and thats verified by the California Highway Patrol.  :smokin: Caught air multiple times, :icon16: and that sucker could launch a shopping cart 30 feet in the air. :angelwings: They are also a blast on frozen Minnesota lakes and shopping center parking lots.   :bananasmi

Your problem is obviosly heat related causing voltage resistance to the Solenoid.
Been there, done that with headers in the past.

Take a look at some of the items on this website:

Yeah those Chevettes were fugly.

Thanks Topcat that looks pretty nice and ould be useful here in the summer. I have not looked at the starter on my car. knowing the car it is probably either the original one or a p.o.s. reman.

Ok so I got the starter brand new off EBay for $75 shipped.  Man is this thing small!  It's also made in China.  Can I rely on this thing?

Is there one available made in the U.S.A.?   I am antichina. I guess I'll use it for now but when I build my 340 I am going to make a giant sling shot and launch this p.o.s. into the woods and get one made in the U.S.A. if possible.

DB electric makes really good mini starters and for a decent price (I think around $65.00 bucks) and that's new not a reman & they are guaranteed. They sell on Ebay. I know quite a few Mopar guys (myself included) that have used them with no complaints/problems. You can do a key word search on the ebaymotors web site & find them.  :2thumbs:
