Difference between vert and standard glass
« on: September 30, 2012 - 10:33:56 AM »
Can someone please tell me the difference between convertible and standard door glass and how to tell the difference .
I'm trying to install the door glass on my 70 vert challenger and can't get it lined up properly.
Since I got the car in pieces I'm not sure I have the right glass.

Not sure of any other differences but the top edge will be flat instead of curved since the vert top frame is flat along that spot. Also, the quarter windows have the same thing, flat top. The wind shield is the same as a hard top.

Sure, here are two pics of mine. I hope this helps. It's not exactly flat but much more so than a hardtop window

Thank you,
I do have the wrong glass, mine curves more and doesn't have that sharp edge on the back..

 :iagree:

Mostly base on the not so sharp corner to the rear of the glass, I'd say hardtop as well.

I kind of wish I had some HT glass to contrast and compare it to now to see any more subtleties.

That said, I believe you can get new glass for verts now.

Yes you can get glass for verts now from AMD. I just got some to replace mine. They have both clear and tinted. I'll get some pictures of the vert and HT glass side by side when I get home from work tonight and get them posted. I only have Challenger HT and Vert glass though. Don't have any Cuda HT glass to compare to.

here are some pictures of the two different windows. I also laid one on top of the other and took a few shots. They are identical with the exception of the upper edge. The hardtop has is more curved and the vert has an angle. They are also a little different on the back edge. Hope this helps.

Looks like I do have the correct glass. The convertible glass has a sharp edge towards the front and round at the back according to the photos.
If you look up at the picts that Cuda416 posted it looks different, like a combination of the h/t and vert glass (his has a sharp edge on the front and back of the glass)
I think my glass looks like the one labeled convertible (sprecks posted).
I'm more confused now than before, since I'm having such a hard time aligning it up.

Thanks

I just checked my vert's door glass, sharp edges front and back.

Alignment of these can be a pain. My passenger side still isn't 100%, when that door is shut the glass still needs to be pushed in. I think I just have worn out internals.

:iagree: The rounded off back edge in the picture I posted is probably a case of a poor reproduction part by AMD. Says made in Taiwan right on the box.  :swear:
There is no reason for it to be rounded off on the back edge.

The glass I have, I think is an original part.
It has the pentstar symbol on it and looks to be prettyold
If I buy a repo part who knows what I'll get , round or sharp.
