    I'm curious about people's opinions on what wheels and tires would be good to have for driving purposes when I take off my show tires and wheels, which are the stock items on the AAR, ralleys and E&G70X15 Polyglas.  I want radials of course, and a period type look for the wheels, no 18" types.  What do people think would look good on a Sassy Grass Green AAR?

    I know you said "period correct" but seeing as it's an AAR ..... I'm going to get these as soon as funds allow. My biggest reason is there is no really good rubber for 15" , you have to go with 17" or bigger to get into the good rubber compounds.

    On an AAR I would just go with a second set of Rallye wheel's honestly, they look great with a staggered 15x8/15x7 and some classic BFG's.  AAR's are my favorite cars by far and I couldn't picture them with any other wheel lol.  I bought a blue AAR clone one time and it had Torque Thrust wheels, they were actually pretty nice too, here's a pic.

    For an AAR, IMO, if it were my car and you have the "stock" look already, I would upgrade to 17" rims and get some handling under the belt. 

    Figure that AARs were made for corners, might as well help it out in that department and have some fun with the car.   :2cents:

    Thanks guys, good suggestions, nice cars and they do look good.  I am concerned about the lack of higher speed rated rubber for 15".  I have a set of Pirelli P4000s I bought a few years ago.  They are "Z" rated 215R70X15, something they quit making, so I snapped up a set for my '68 Shelby while I could find them.  Wish I had another.  I am not thinking about going that fast, but the "Z" rated tires, or really also things rated "H" or higher, are just made better with high quality nylon end caps for strength.  I like the BFG T/As look, but their traction leaves something to be desired, so some compromises are in order I guess.

    Mickey Thompson SR (not the ST) and Maxxim Marauder SA1 are both H rated tires in 15" sizes that are not god awful expensive. You also can find them in size equivilents to your show tires so you are not radically altering ride heights or anything. You can find V and Z rated 15" tires, but they are not easy to come by and they are expensive, usually $300+ per tire. In all honesty, the are race tires that also have d.o.t. ratings.

    One thing you will have a compromise on is the bias ply alignment on your AAR for the stock polyglass tires will not take full advantage of a radial tire's construction for performance. So you leaving performance on the table right from the get go.

    In inexpensive 15" tires, Dean Stinger, Cooper Cobra, and MT ST are all mucho better than BFG TAs. I'd also look at the load index rating rather than speed rating as an indicator of strength and reliability. Speed rating is a better indication on gripping power for cornering and braking.

    Ooop, sorry just reread your first post and saw you don't want bigger rims but period correct....  :-[

    How about 15" steel rims with dog dishes?  Adding the trim rings makes it looks nice IMO...or like Brad the minilites are cool, TRans Am looking...  :2cents:

    Actually, I am warming up to getting 17", I notice some nice wheels in that size too.  And the better rubber available might be a real plus.  Can I put 225s on the front of the AAR, which has OEM E70s?  Any problems there?  I assume the rear is no problem since the OEM is a G70.

    Year One is making 17" Rally wheels now. I think I might go that route when I buy my next set of tires.

    Wow, now that is an interesting option.  Will the AAR handle 225s up front or even wider with these wheels I wonder?

    Yes, easily. With proper back spacing a 275 is even possible. My current tires have a 10" section width.

    Yes!!  I've been looking for these in 18x and 17x.  Sweet!  but will have to save for a while for these.
