Anyone install an HID headlight kit?
« on: October 03, 2012 - 02:20:52 AM »
Hey guys,

I have already installed some new H4 halogen lights with some LED's in my Cuda, but I'm wondering if anyone has installed a true HID kit in their e-body?

I'm curious if I'm going to run into any electrical issues because of the extra heat they put off or power they require.  Further, has anyone experienced any form and fit issues due to the lenses or ballasts required?  And finally, how much modification to the wiring harness was required or do you know of one kit that's truly plug and play?

Thanks guys!

I installed them in a Caravn , they have plastic headlight housings , the HID do not seem to make excessive heat & use less power , I do not know of a plug & play kit but it may be available , it is a 5 wire install , you just need a High & low beam trigger from one light socket , the harness comes with plugs for the ballasts & the lights plug inot the ballast & includes a relay to take power from the battery or battery post on the start relay.

just get the set that matches the bulbs you already have and it plug and play. you can get a high/low beam kit but with hid's you will never need high beams. And a 65 watt kit only uses like 15 watts so its lets draw on your alternator. I have them installed in everything I drive.

I have housings for H4 halogens with H4 HIDs in it. They're relatively lower current drawing than the factory halogens, but I do have relays and a new harness on my system.

Depends a lot on where you are at, in Vegas I'd never use them. Here in Texas, I use them pretty frequently..

if you use regular bulbs for head lights then you need high beams. regular bulbs look like candles next to hid's.

In our e-bodies do they fit without cutting anything?( other tan wiring)
I ask as I bought a H4 kit and the bulb sticks out to far in the back?

I just moved here about 2 years ago , do not miss winter at all . Is you family still here ?

I just bought some H4 HIDs today , they have less than 1/2" behind the 3 leg mounting plate , I can get lots more if you need them

Does this mean they will fit without cutting anything up?

Rear of bulb. are they glass housings or plastic? Picture would be great!  :picture:
