Tuning a new quick fuel 850

Got a few questions....
Has anyone actually measured Holley jets? I ask as I had 76 jets in the front and bought a new set of 74's . I measured the differences in sizes between the 2 jets and it was like.002- .003" ? Is this normal?

Also it ran best when I screwed in the screws all the way on the front metering block? Idle smoothed out, vacume was better and the air/fuel ratio gauge was cleaner?   What does this tell ya?

Can't answer any of your questions but once you figure yours out IllLet you set mine QF HR680. Did have someone mention that IMay need to bore a small hole in the throttle plate to allow more airflow. I don't know about that

Never measured, but they are rated by what they flow, not hole size.

The jet sizing is normal , usually you will see less change over 2 jet sizes than .003 thou
You have a problem if it runs best with the idle screw bottomed out , you are either getting fuel through an internal leak or the secondary side is feeding too much fuel in , turn all 4 screws in until the bottom & back them all out 1/2 & then adjust all 4 equally or cose the secondary idle screw down .

interesting question on the screws. I ran into the same problem with my holley.  Where do I go from here to locate the issue?

If you have 4 idle screws you need to balance all of them , take them all to the bottom & back them out 1 turn then adjust them the same way turn them all out equally or in equally 1/8 of a turn each . Make sure the front & rear throttle is approx opened the same amount as well , there are idle speed screws for front & rear on all 4 bbls , the Holleys have them hidden & have to be adjusted from the bottom of the carb . If the engine still runs best with them all the way in then there is a fuel leak somewhere internally , either the powervalve is not closed at idle due to low vacuum or the wrong gaskets are installed in the carb . As mentioned often with low vacuum you have to open the throttle more to achieve Idle speed & will uncover the idle transfer slots , this makes the idle mixture screws insensitive so adjusting makes no difference , in this case you have to drill a small hole in the throttle plates [some carbs come already drilled] this allows more air into the engine without uncovering the transfer slots & retains mixture adjustment . the other thing that really helps with low vacuum engines is using smaller bleeds or restricting them this allow the lower vacuum to pull more fuel into the engine .

I have no idea, this is my first time with a quick fuel carb? It's machined/threaded for the brass inserts, just none installed?  :dunno:

Maybe shoot a quick email to QFC tech for a solid answer. I was told these were a Holley knock off and Holley parts could be used - supposedly manufacture is more closely scrutinized- does this look to be the case Brad? Also is the blue stuff on the metering block from the gasket - these gaskets are supposed to be reuseable with no stickum required(on a Holley anyhow)? These QF carbs are becoming very popular and I considered one but change can be difficult. :)

This just makes me glad I went with the Proform carb.

I have my had fuel bowls off, and metering block once, without those gasket stains. I have re-used the original gaskets without trouble.

Now what is up with that metering block?    :clueless:
