1970 Cuda Lanyards - Correct Grille Location?
« on: October 04, 2012 - 11:39:07 PM »
Hello, I am trying to figure out where the hood pin lanyards are suppose to poke through the grille on my 1970 Cuda.  I believe the current location of my hood pin lanyards are incorrect. After checking many reference pictures tonight on the internet, it looks like the lanyards are suppose to poke through the grille at either Position 1, Position 2 or Position 3. Which location would be the correct  proper location (Position 1, Position 2, Position 3 or another Location)?  :clueless:

Thank you!

Position 1 sounds correct but many of the pictures I have seen on the internet show position 2. I think I will go with position 1 until someone can verify a different location. Thank you for your assistance.

Some images even show the lanyards between Grille and sheet metal like the picture of my Cuda posted earlier. I know this is a minor thing it would be great to know exactly where the lanyards were on the Cudas that rolled off the assembly lines back in the 70s. The picture below shows position 2 for the lanyards. Now I am really confused.

Mine are placed in position 1, after I looked at original sales brochures, and pictures of unmolested cars.

I think I am still going with position 1. However, my friend last night found a 1970 Hemi Cuda television commercial on the internet  that may change my mind. This TV commercial looks authentic so I took the following two screen captures as the camera panned across the grille. To my surprise, the lanyards were not in Position 1 or Position 2. The lanyards are poking through Position 3 at the extreme upper right and upper left of the Grille.

I will go with position 1 for now. It would be great if I could find documentation that verifies the location 100%.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Remember, these were put on by factory workers not robots, so each worker may have located the cable through the grille differently.

That said; unless you are doing a 100 point restoration, put them were you like them best.
