Hey! How long did it take you to find your dream car? I know there will be lots of answers like "I'm still looking" Myself I have been looking for a out 2 years and only the last year or so seriously waiting with cash in my pocket.

Tell us what you found and how you found it! Maybe it will help me find my cuda! Or maybe I'll stop missing out on those cars. Thanks

Drooling over them for about 3yrs before I deployed to Iraq in 2004, could not afford one at the time. I was about to settle for a lower priced duster, ( as long as it was mopar right! ) anyways,..About 6 months after I got home from Iraq I bought her off a lot in Central Oregon for 15,000 circa 2005, have put another 15,000 into her converting her to my dream powertrain 440-4speed and 391 posi.

it took me over 6 months 32 years ago to find my Chall R/T SE , not my dream car but close enough , I few others have slipped through my grasp that I should have bought but couldn't . There is a lot to be said for letting go of what you have to get what you really want though

It took me about six months. During those 6 months, I looked about everywhere on the web. What was a bit discouraging was that, you see the same cars here and there. I was looking for a 70 or 71 Challenger with A\C. My preference was a 383 car, and it didn't have to be an R/T, but I was looking for one wearing all its A/C components, (most of the A/C cars out there are missing the stuff under the hood). Like Chryco, I found my "close enough'' dream car, a 1971 Challenger R/T 383 magnum. I found it on ''For E bodies only'', but it was far from home. I' m Canadian, living close to Montreal and the car was in Georgia, 1200 miles away! (When you want something...).
The car is now all apart being curently restored and I hope to be ready for next summer. Have a nice day everyone

I really like my Challenger and it's not that I don't appreciate it, but my dream car is a replica of a 427 Shelby Cobra.

IF at all possible, will wait til after the kids get older.  Might give the Challenger to one of my kids when they are old enough to appreciate it and then maybe I'll get it if the finances work out right.

One big issue though are the new emission laws for kit cars started in April this year.  I think the emissions are either related to the engine block production date or the year the car was made so that means all the cars that used the 5.0L Mustang engines have to have cats retrofitted and such if you buy one.  If you had the car before 4/30/12, then you're grandfathered in, no emissions if I'm not mistaken if the car is titles as a 1965 Cobra.

My dream car came & went. It was a '70 'Cuda. Wife got pregnant and car had to go. I actually wanted a '71 'Cuda. This was in the early 90's and the classic car prices had peaked at phenominal prices that I could no longer afford. So it took me almost 10 years to get a really clean one owner '74 Challenger with a 440, automatic which now sports a 543! BUT my real dream car is a true T/A Challenger!!  :woo:

I'd say at least 2 years. The delay being I originally was looking for a 70 Charger. Then I kept running across 70 Challengers, and the rest is history.

It took about two and a half years to find mind.  And, when I least expected it, I found her!

I looked at a lot of cars, that did not meet my standards or wants, and I am happy I waited until I found the right one.

Well, really took many many years of waiting.

I negotiated with my wife for a 50th birthday gift, thinking I'd buy something that would need a lot of work and a few years to complete.  I really started looking back in '09, and found the Challenger that fall.

I watched her for a while, until I finally got up the nerve to take her for a ride.  About 6 months later, we made it legal.  She was in much better shape than I expected, and we've been enjoying her for more than 2 years now.

Here’s a cuda story for you-It’s kinda long (sorry) and it used to be posted on completelycudas web site owned by cuda zappa  long ago-
It was a little after new year’s in 1971, I was a 7 year old kid that was really into cars. I was out riding by bike (my first taste of freedom and speed). As I turn the corner from our house, I see this brand new beautiful black 1971 cuda-black paint, black vinyl top, gilled fenders, black 340 billboard stripes, with fog lights, luggage rack (I wasn’t too fond of the luggage rack) and rallye hood. I thought that was the coolest car in the world!! I decided to ride a little closer to get a better look. As I cruised in for a closer inspection-WHAM-I get hit by a by this stream of cold water.
I stop my bike to see who wet me, and I find out it was my neighbor Mr. Dean. He warns me not to scratch it because he just bought it. I then ask him if I can get a closer look-so he then waves me over-as I am looking the car over-Mr. Dean is telling me about all the equipment that was on the car. He mentions it was the show room car at the Pasadena Dodge Plymouth dealer and the salesman says the dealership owner was trying to get one of each hp special engine (426 hemi, 440 sixpak, and 340) options in quadruple black cars and this was the first one delieved. It is equipped with the typical cuda fare but with, A/C, power windows, rear defogger and black leather seating, ect…
That summer I would go and help him wash and wax it because it was such a cool car, and I asked him when he got tired of it, would he sell it to me. Well 30 yrs later-he came over and asked me if I still wanted the whole Plymouth-of course-I said yes!
I am so lucky he has always been and still is a man of his word!

And I still have it through all the up and downs in the economy…never thought of ever selling it! It s gonna be my coffin.
