 :iagree:  Very cool story!  :grinyes:
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

About 6 months to find it. Almost exactly 5 more years for it to be drivable and in my garage.

I started looking for my first cuda around 95'.

I would only settle for a 71. Didn't have to be a bs, just had to be a 71.

So, years went by. My Mopar friend told me to stop looking for a 71 and just get one of the other years.
After all they are pretty much the same car.

So, I purchased a 72 in about 2003.
Then I purchased maybe another half dozen barracuda's/cuda's.  None of which were 71's.

Everyone wanted the dear lords fortune for their 71.

About three years back, after I had sold all of my mopar stuff to pay for a family disaster, I found one from a member here.
It was in Odessa Texas. Drove down and picked her up.

/6 car.  Rally red.  3 speed on the floor.  GREAT Price!!!!

So, I held out for a 71 for about 15 years.

NOw she sits in the garage as I gather parts for her/or him.  Whatever!

On her way home.  A few miles from her stable.

I'd have to say I'm still waiting. Although I drought I will ever have a HEMI E body. Namely a Challenger would be the dream car. Nancy says we now have it.  The new R/T is nice but to me it's not like a 70 HEMI Challenger.

Only took me a month, but that month was in 1978  :cooldancing:

My 70 Challenger RT found me!  Yes, it appeared in my driveway but my son was the owner.  He had been looking for a car and I was pleased he wanted a Mopar.  This was in 1987 and he was 18 years old.  The car was a 70 Challenger RT that was in good condition but definitely not a cream puff.  The original big block (383) had been replaced with a 340 and it had a 20 foot white paint job in place of the original sublime.  There was evidence of many other changes after it left the factory, but the car ran really well with very good performance.  This turned out to be the problem.  Young son---fast car!  It was not a good match for several reasons.  He became an Army Ranger and the car sat a lot.  Because of it's age , hard life, ongoing maintenance issues and his very heavy foot I bought it from him in 1990.  I saved both he and the car from further distress.
Having covered storage I just parked the car with an occasional short drive.  Being busy with other restorations the car was mostly dormant until January 06 when it's turn came and I did a complete restoration back to factory appearance and reinstalled a big block.  After selling the Challenger to me my son bought a Toyota Land Cruiser and immediately mellowed into a fine young man.

I'm still looking too, 2 years now! But without this sight and the great people here, I'd still be 1) looking in all the wrong places, and 2) have no idea what I was looking for! Like all 'cuda newbies I wanted the holy grail, those cars exist the but bank balance of 250-500K doesn't. Considered restoring my own holy grail, I just don't have the expertise or facilities necessary to complete such a task. And I learned that by reading almost every thread here on resto projects. So I've lowered my expectations and I feel good about it. Still want that '71 hemi cuda in red! But I've learned engines and color are the easiest to change if everything else is good. The hard part is 'everything else is good'. Even if I found a good starting point, the time and money that would be needed to be spent could be more than just finding one 'done' and ready to drive, so that's where I'm at. Have some good trusted folks looking for me, in the meantime I keep reading and learning here. Someday! With the way the market and economy is now, maybe next year will be my year, maybe the phone will ring this afternoon, who knows! What I do know is, I'll really appreciate my car when I get it!

I found mine by misteak, chance or whatever you want to call it.Summer of 89 my parents and i were comming home from vacation and stopped in Seaford Delaware to gas up the moterhome and sitting beside the gas station was my 74 rallye. I left my name and number and no sooner got in the door at home and the phone rang. it was the owner and he said he would sell it.It had some small electric problems and I ended up with it for $1000. Its been with me here in Pa. ever since.
