Howdy y'all. Hadn't been on a while, been enjoying the Challenger too much
I've got an idea to run by you guys, and would like some thoughts if anyone has had any experience with this. My buddy has a 52 ford pickup, real rusty on the outside, but its sporting a Ranger motor, and rides on a Ranger frame. I've always liked the old pickups, and they are pretty cheap to get on the road (considering how much us MOPAR ppl spend!). My daily driver is a 98 Ram with a 318, so I'm looking to make an old pickup maybe a daily driver, that gets better mpg. I'm leaning towards the 47-53 Chevy's (don't kill me haha)...There's just alot more of them, and they're cheaper. I see alot of guys putting these on an s-10 frame, but know theres quite a bit that goes into that right? I was wondering if it was plausible to put an old chevy on a s-10 frame, use the s-10 motor and everything. That way, I could have the 4.3, with better mpg, and a better ride. But that may not be plausible. Would it be cheaper/ "easier" to just put a v6 and tranny into the existing truck setting on its own frame? OR, If I found one with a motor, I could rebuild the inline 6....but again, I'm looking for good mpg, something reliable, and that could be driven daily. A 3 on the tree or a 4 speed tranny from 1948 is fun to drive on the weekend, but daily...eh idk. Anyway, I'm on a tight budget as usual (college student), and a rat rod is the cheapest build out there. I'd leave the outside patina on, and have some ideas for the inside, just need to know the best, cheapest, "easiest" way to get that dream on the road. I posted this over at a rat rod forum, where guys do this all the time...but thought, hey maybe somebody here has done it (or something like it). Thanks in advance
