Anyone buy the brand new E-body tachometers available?

My original tach, like most, is reading waay high.

Going over my options.
 
First is to buy the upgrade kit and messing around trying to install and calibrate it or sending it off to have the upgrade installed for me.
Then I still having an old looking tach unless I get the face restored.
I'll have quite a bit of $$$ tied up in it.

The other option is to buy one of the new ones currently available for $200
I believe they are made by Charger Specialties, see the link below.

According to the link the tach works with points ,factory electronic ingnition or multiple spark, like MSD

Has anyone bought one of these?
How did it look and/or work?

Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

They work great. I had one for a year or two until I sent my original out for a rebuild. If you look at it closely, all the numbers are equal distant apart. The stock tach(pictured above), has the 0-1 close together with the biggest distance between 7-8.

As for working, it is much more responsive, as it doesn't have a heavy needle like the originals.

I see what you mean about the spacing of the numbers on the repop tach.
If you view the tach at the link I posted the difference is obvious.

Did the tach fit in the dash OK?

Wired up same as stock?

Did the colors on the new tach match the rest of the old gauges?

That's the pic I had in my original post from the same E-bay ad from Dante's

I have a feeling the new tachs are all made by Charger Specialties and have evenly spaced numbers unlike the factory one in the pic.

If you click on the link I posted above you can enlarge and view a pic of the repop tach and see the difference in the number spacing.

I think some other outfit started making repops that more closely resembles OEM.

Sounds good to me.

I'm gonna contact Dante and ask.

If the repops do look that accurate and work that good for $200, why bother restoring an old original.


Update

Per Dante (the e-bay seller), the repop tach he sells is exactly like the one pictured in his ad so the number spacing does look like the original tach.

And yes. I just wanted to point out the slight differences to you if you wanted your gauges to look stock. I see the E-Bay ad posted above is an improvement over what I bought.

All things considered, I'd think you'd get more accurate readings with the wider spacing?
Seems like you'd lose resolution at the lower RPMs with the smaller spacing, which is where I'd think we'd used it the most.

Yes I agree the wider spacing would be easier to read but in all honesty I've used an RPM activated switch to activate a factory light on my dash at my shift points on all my cars for many years.
Never was able to accurately watch the tach needle and run/race my car hard, especially with a 4 speed.
I also have rev limiters on them.
Having a hidden shift light is so much safer, easier and more consistant.

I've outgrown the huge aftermarket tach and other gauges and like my dashes to be stock looking and uncluttered so I would like to have a factory looking tach that will be accurate even if I only look at it occasionally.

Post what you end up doing, I'd like to upgrade my tach as well.

I plan on buying one.

Winter is almost here in my area so it's time to store the old cars.

I've been E-mailing with Dante's Performance and have bought from him in the past.

He has a sale coming up around the holidays so I plan to have few things to buy then including the tach, unless I find it on sale before then.

But the smaller spacing is only between 0 and 500 rpms...which you never use anyway.
