Replacing 4 speed reverse light switch
« on: October 13, 2012 - 10:37:25 AM »
Picked up a new reverse light switch to replace the leaking original one in my 4 speed.

Should I be prepared for tranny lube to leak out when I remove the old one?

Thanks.

Yeah, the gear oil will leak out, so move fast.  When we put a switch into ours, the button wasn't being pushed in far enough to light the reverse light.  Had to pull it out and machine off a little of the shoulder so it seated in further.  Hope your's works out of the box.

Thanks, that what I figured, at least I'll be prepared.

Do you remember what swith you installed? a NOS type or the newer type.
The one I pictured is the newer type, supposed to be better at not leaking where the wired plug goes in.

I have never had a problem with the newer / better switch , if you jack up the rear of the car you may lose less fluid

Got it swapped out.
The new switch works perfectly.

Drained the fluid to avoid a gear lube shower mess.
I also wanted to be able to inspect/clean the threads.

Pumped the fluid back in with a handy suction tool I picked up cheap at the auto
 parts store.
