Putting rallye gauges in my car questions

If I have a 71 cuda,and I buy 72 and up set..what's the differences I see the tach goes to 8000 is the dash harness any different and will it cause problems?

Same harness for all years of ralley dash but the later dash may have the seat belt warnig light & wiring

The rest knobs for the clock and trip odometer are in different spots:
In the later gauges (72+) the reset for the trip/clock go through the face of the gauge itself.


In the earlier gauges(70-71),   the reset goes through a different part of the dash:

the original design was just used in 70 & early 71 , all others used the later design , same with the 8 K tach mid 71 went to the 7k tach for the rest of production

I would not put 72-74 rally gauges in a 71.They are not correct.Yes they will fit but it just does not look right.

I had a set of 72-74 gauges in my car for a few years just because they all worked. In the end though, I ended up sending out my 70 gauges to be rebuilt. I just had guilt pangs I guess.    :grinyes:

...Plus, the clock reset cable doesn't give you grief on the later gauges either.

The easiest way I found to tell the harnesses apart is to look at the bulb sockets. If there's a light socket with both a dark blue and grey wire going to it then it's a standard harness. That's the lamp for the oil pressure idiot light. When I swapped mine over I just cut the grey wire (G6-18GY) and crimped a connector on it for the oil pressure gauge.
