eagle 4.15 crank and rods in a 493 we built with ross pistons this engine runs really good i would make sure the big end of the rods are checked mine where a little to big. and i would go with a .990 wrist pin as well shave a few grams off the rotating assembly. i would get with CP on a camshaft spec that depends on your heads you go with i do not like the comp thats in my 493.

440 source 512 stroker kit with 7.1" rods using the 5060 piston with closed chamber Iron heads putting the compression @ 10.6 with proper quench or the 5074 puts the compression @ 9.8 with quench , the alum heads can take more compression over 11:1 . You may want to use the Super stealth Alum heads.
JP Billet timing chain with 7 keyways
 Prw Rocker arms .
Cam can be custom ground to match the powerband you want & numerous intakes are available depending on powerband & hod clearance , the Holley Street Dominators is one of the best & sits low , Indy had a max wedge port dual plane , M1 single is great but taller , Eddy Performer RPM is a very good intake ,
Mancini has a alum water pump & housing pkg .
The Mopar dist is fully adjustable but you may want to use the rev-n-ator ECU
Mellin oil pump with high pressure but only use High volume with a large capacity oil pan .
Mancini has the hemi pan & pick up kit also , I would stay with the 3/8 pick up tube .
You can add a stud girdle kit for the bottom end .

what specs would i have to give the machine shop to complete their work before ordering a stroker kit?

not a lot , you can clean the block , replace the core plugs & fit cam brgs  .
You cannot  notch the bores or clearance the block without the crank & rods , you can rough bore the block but cannot finish bore & hone the block unless you have the pistons so they can be fitted  the block deck cannot be corrected until you know the piston height , not all con rods are the same length by a few thou , we install the longest ones in the corners & deck the  block so compression is correct .

it wouldn't be a good idea to order a stroker kit until i know if it needs boring though, since i'll be ordering from ???? there would be extra shipping $$ if i had to return

If you block is far from standard bore it would pay to get it sonic checked before proceeding with a huge outlay of $$$ for a stroker kit.

also i read somewhere of i used chevy rods and pistons there isn't any clearance grinding?

the 7.100 long rods do have a slightly smaller pin both ends & lower profile bolts but at 512 I believe ti still requires a small notch at the bottom of the bores

without knowing the actual bore, is it wise to order a stroker kit so any clearance grinding can be done before the block is sent away for machining?

if i was to do clearance grinding after the maching etc was done, what would be the best way to get rid of filings and grinding dust?

you can rough bore the block to see if it will clan up @ .020 or .030 over .
You really need to set the crank & rods in place to see how much bore notch you will need , but yes the block will need to be cleaned after the clearancing is done

As said, the new pistons should be matched to their respective bores after boring then honing. It's very important to have a quality machine shop that has modern equipment and the know-how to use it. Decking the block, adding rod reliefs to the block if needed, final honing with load sensing equipment and good tooling are essential and the stroker components will be used by the shop to determine where to machine/cut. Are you going to assemble the engine yourself? If you take the block to a Machine Shop, can they order a stroker kit for you? It's best if you can get a stroker kit from a reputable machine shop because they can inspect and measure the new components for fit, finish and any assembly issues. Some components should be measured with micrometers and dial bore gauges. Accurate ones with repeatable readings are very expensive. Yes, you should get the engine block sonic checked, this can save you hundreds if not a thousand or more dollars, especially if you skip this test and have to do it again due to a split cylinder that had a thin spot in it. Even new parts MUST be checked carefully and then cleaned with hot soapy water then washed and dryed with solvent. The soapy water 'floats' the debris away, the solvent leaves no residue. Eddie

ok guys here's a run down of my planned stroker build:

REUSE MY: 850 HOLLLEY and m1 single

ORDERING:
-block from COMPU-FLOW 512 stroker completely assembled short block (recommended builder)
-found some RPM 80CC heads $1000 with extra porting done
-lunati 60304
-PRW ROCKERS
-considering an external oiling system with pan.....any recommended kits?
-7 key way chain
-aluminum water pump and housing (CHRYCO SUGGESTED,MANCINI)

What pistons should i have installed to achieve 10.5:1 compression with these heads?

any other suggestions on gaskets or other things...(COMETIC FOR HEADS)

I'm looking for a bullet proof street engine with a long life and low maintenance

I am not familar with what pistons Compuflow have but off the top off my head you want a dished piston approx 17 cc dish .015 below deck with an 80 cc head & a .039 thick head gasket & you should be very close to 10.5 Comp
Right Stuff sealer , Fel Pro gaskets , I would go internal oiling , it will fit & is a lot less hassle make sure you have a windage tray , scraper helps too , Smith bros for pushrods , they deliver overnight in the US
