Okay guys HERE IT IS...!!!
So I paid Harry's Transmission of Denver for my first rebuild because I wanted a 'Professional job' on my Hemi 4 spd. and to start, I noticed when I first got it home that the shift cover was not installed correctly so the forks were not engaging. An easy fix, so I just handled that part for them and installed it without making a big deal about the error. And then, to make a long story short, it lasted about 75 miles before completely grenading.
So I took it back to be rebuilt it under warranty, (of course I had to pull it again myself). But when I brought it in, he was very defensive, and somehow it was my fault that 2nd gear ground from the start, 3rd gear howled, it vibrated on the highway, and it only lasted less than 100 miles before it would not go into any gear....
(This was not my first install rodeo, just admit you made a mistake on the rebuild, sheesh...)
Then when I went to pick it up after the re-rebuild, he made a comment something like, I am not going to rebuild it again...blah blah even though he initially told me a "1 year unconditional warranty, ...It will last no problem, etc." This told me the integrity level of Harrys Transmission...
Well anyway, since it all worked much better, no grinds, I was happy. ...until... after a little more driving, I noticed it was popping out of 3rd under decel. ..so I thought I would ask you all to help me diagnose since I didn't think Harrys would have the integrity to get it right on the 3rd time either and he had a bad attitude last time.
So then I pulled the trans yesterday to find that Mr. Careless had not put the strut springs in the syncros correctly, and they were only pressing on 2 of the 3 struts. So I reinstalled them correctly myself, and VIOLA..., The trans does not pop out of 3rd anymore.
And while I had it apart, I noticed that he used used gears (was supposed to replace 3rd and coutershaft cluster gear new since they originally had a bad tooth) ...Whatever...
Well anyway, I would like to thank you all for your input, and to thank Harrys Transmission for the incompetence and lack of integrity, because it caused me to learn how to rebuild an a833 myself, and that once again, I had to do it myself if I wanted it done right.
Next time, I will just buy parts NEW from Brewers or Passon and do it myself, and I encourage the rest to do the same since the transmission was way easier than I thought it would be to work on! (although they are a little complex and you have to pay attention, so if you are not good at figuring things out, you may want to buy a whole new one from Passon or someone GOOD...lol)
Thanks again Cuda-Challenger members!
