Tires are BF Goodrich G-Force
Front: 245/40-17 - A fraction of an inch shorter than the current 195/75-14
Rear: 275/40-17 - A fraction taller....

Saturday looks to be the day for  :working:, weatherman says no more rain after tomorrow morning.

That looks great, I would caution the use of 245*40 front tire as the load rating is 91 and should really be higher. I have the same front size and found that after short driving distance, the air pressure started at 35 cold went to 60 hot. I called Kumho rep. who freaked out and said I have the tire overloaded, so I will be changing to different size tire. Probably 255*45*17 size which is 98 load rating.

Hmmm, It would be very tight. When turned to full lock I had about a ½" room to the fender well. A 275 may rub, especially when on the brakes and turning.

I never considered that. I did check the pressure before (36 psi) and after (39 psi) a 70 or so mile drive.
Load rating is 1356 per tire. That's 2,712 total on the front. What is the weight distribution like on theses cars?

Hmmm, maybe this is the incentive I need to replace those 100 lb. iron heads an AC, I'll drop some weight and pick up some power. ;) The aluminum manifold I have must have saved about 20lbs...   


Edit: I looked it up. a '73 with a 340 has a shipping weight of about 3200 lbs.(I assume that means dry) Mine has a 440. What's the difference in engine weight? Surely it isn't that much. Even at 4000 lbs the car would need a F/R weight distribution ratio of 62.5/37.5 to put 2500 lbs on the front wheels. Are these cars that unbalanced?? :clueless:

WoW!  Those rims and tires look great!  My only concern is the weight.  Is 50+ lbs per wheel a lot?  Would the ride be more controlled and compliant if the weight was less?  Would it be better to spend more to get less weight?  But man, those look great and the price is great too.  Makes it hard to decide.

Yes you can.

The front's are tight, but they fit. I run 17x9's with 5" backspace and 275/40/17's all the way around on my Challenger. I initially had a little bit of fender lip rub on the passenger side, but I went with a little more negative camber (about -.9* now) and trimmed the fender lip a little. No issues since then, and I run fairly low as well. 1/2" higher in the front than I sit and you'd have no issues whatsoever.

You dont go by actual weight of car, you go by what the car manufacturer recomended for OEM size tire. A 91 load rated tire is for a 4cyl compact car basically. The original tires recomeneded for a challenger are a 98 rating (I think). My Kumho's are a 95XL rated tire, but I was misinformed as to what the XL (extra load) rating meant when i bought them. A 95XL tire and a 91SL tire are rated about same capacity at 35psi, the XL tire can go higher weight BUT that is with more psi, i think 41psi. I dont like my tires at 41psi, rides very rough.  I would rather get a 98SL tire and run at 30psi. Adding more air than 35psi to a SL tire does not increase it weight capacity, although the sidewall may say you can go to 51psi.

I would recomend you call your tire maker customer service line and see what they tell you just to be safe. Like me, you may be in the same situation.

Combo looks great on the car. I think it really retains the factory feel allowing wider tires. Could you provide measurements of ground to the wheelwell? I know my back might be sitting low. BTW, my car has the same color and black vinyl top as yours but with factory rallye stripes. Thanks for sharing.

Front: 24 ½"
Rear: 24 ¾"

I think a ½" drop all around would be ideal for me.

Thanks for checking. I will go and remeasure mine tonight. My front is definitely higher than the rear. I have not decided if I should get the new wheels installed and see how it looks first before changing out the leaf springs or change the leaf springs first and measure the height then play with the tire sizes. I like the back higher than the front like yours. Are you going to crank down the torsion bars to lower the front or change to drop spindles?

Are you going to crank down the torsion bars to lower the front or change to drop spindles?

Probably play with the torsion bars, although I must admit to having never seen a torsion bar before...
I'll d some research first to see what the safest method is. Eventually I'd like to splurge on a Hotchkis kit.

I wonder if there is any way to have them widened?  I assume they are cast aluminum. I would rather run a wider rim/tire combo in the back of my challenger than what is offered.  I have a feeling though that can't be done. Thoughts?

Man, these look awesome. The proportions and depth of the lip look incredible.

18x8 Fronts and 18x10 Rears would look amazing on my car. Slightly darker silver paint (could do on my own) with the dark center cap.

Hopefully they'll expand the range of sizes in the future. For the pro touring look, 17" is a bit anemic for filling out the rears in particular.

Very promising though!

I saw a set of these installed on a 70 Chally on ForEBodiesOnly and they looked the absolute mutts nuts!!!
I think they were 17x8 and 18x9 and no clearance issues whatsoever.
I put ARE Daytona rims in those same sizes and had no issues either on my 72 Chally :)
