1970 cuda how bad did i mess up?
« on: October 25, 2012 - 01:15:58 AM »
Couple years ago i bought this car and am just starting to reliaze what i did. Been kinda grease monkey for awhile and people were always messing with me about always working on junk cars. So i went out bought a muscle car or at least what i was told was a muscle car having been born almost 20 years after this car was built haha. I dident know a thing about muscles what it took to restore one or nothing i just looked at my favorite truck brand and worked backwards. Spent few weeks looking on internet and found out a dodge challenger had a brother the cuda. Mom knew someone with a cuda so i turned around and went out and bought one. 2 years later i haven't done much with it and am wondering if i got burmned or if this car is worth trying to restore.

So enough blah i bought a 1970 340 cuda 4 speed pistol grip car. I got it from a bankruptcy sale and at time was totaly disassembled knowing nothing about car i think everything is there. The door car and title all have matching numbers but engine does not although engine is a 1970 340. Fender tag and build sheet are massing. Seems like car is in decent shape trunk pan has some holes and floor pans have pin holes.

All said and done i have about 9500 in this car. Is it worth trying to make a nice weekend driver or should i part it out?

It definately doesn't sound like it should be parted out. Can you post some pictures so we can get a better idea of the condition? Too bad it doesn't have a fender tag but it is still a 340 Cuda. The vin tag is present correct? Where are you located?

Like drew said, we need some pics.  Have to see what condition the body is in, etc.  Are all the parts there?  Did you buy the car all in parts or was it together, a complete car?

crocha mentioned the VIN tag.  Any issues with potentially registering this car?  You have the title I assume?  If ythere are potential problems with getting the car registered you might want to hold the reigns before sinking in too much money.  Want to make sure you can enjoy and drive this car after you put all your hard work and $$$ in to it.

Lets see whatcha got...

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Ive got few good pictures of when i bought it and got it home ill post later. The car is in my name so no title issues and title vin matches the body vin and door vin.

Ooops, just reread, my bad, you got it disassembled.  Glad to hear the title/VIN issue is a non-issue.

Pics are of the night i unloaded it and basicly it sits that way today only packed onto shelfs and dusty. I dident know there was a vin number on dash but i kinda dought its orginal as the dash that came with it is a rallye dash and i dont think it would have had a rallye dash in it stock.

Site is not allowing me to upload pictures any trick to getting them posted?

I think the site limits the amount of data uploaded in one post, so you can save the pictures at a lower resolution or use a program to reduce their sizes, and then post just two or three at a time.  Whatever the car looks like, I'm sure it can be made whole again.  Keep it.

70 cuda with a 4 speed and a 340 sounds like a good deal to me!   Look forward to the pics!   If you are having problem posting them, you can email them to me and I will post them for you!

or you can join photobucket or imageshack and upload your pictures from those sites.

Pics will help the true valueation of your car.
Sounds like a really cool car.

When vin on dash is mentioned, it is meant that there is a rectangular tag that is on the drives side of the dash pad.  right where it meets the window.
That vin tag is the most important tag on an ebody.
Does the dash pad have the vin tag on it?

Do your many pages of parts happen to have a fender tag hanging out in them?

looks like a pretty solid project to me,  i would not part it out, Make it into a good driver +.
You are missing the 2 angled supports that are welded in. that would be behind the back seat. goes from the under seat pan to the speaker shelf extensions.

Holy huge pix batman,no just kidding ,

from what I can see here is you have a mountain of work ahead of you but it is worth building ,

just find a starting point perhaps media blast the body since it is completely bare and start from that point

and like I said this board has more good people and knowledge than white on rice

also beg ,borrow , build or buy a rotisserie it will make life so much easier :2thumbs:
