Depth of oil pickup
« on: October 25, 2012 - 07:22:44 PM »
Oil pickup was originally the correct distance from the pan. I am now adding a windage tray and and second gasket so I am guessing it will be that thickness higher from the pan. Am I supposed to bend it to compensate? If I do it won't really be parallel.

I would think that that little bit (Maybe 3/16" inch) would not be enough to worry about. If you run your pan that low on oil, where it takes a dry suction due to an extra 3/16" or so gap on the pickup tube, you've got more problems to worry about than a little extra gap on the pickup tube. Heck I would think that you'd have to be about 3 or more quarts low for the pump to have a dry suction (maybe going around a corner). But then again, there may be other factors, I'm not considering.

bend it to fit.  If you put an HV pump on and run some hi rpm's , you will that most of the oil from the pan is on the return trip back to it. It should be almost touching.
