found the outside mirror used on vanishing point challenger.
« on: October 26, 2012 - 10:05:05 AM »
Was surfing on ebay and found the outside mirror that was used on the Vanishing point challenger. They are 57 for a pair and come from Taiwan but if your making a Vanishing point clone this is what you will need.
Another guy is selling them for 95 a pair.  I will have an extra as you only need one. plan on keeping it in case something happens.
Now to get new bumpers, I had mine powder coated 18 years ago.   Just type in 70 challenger mirror, its the rectangular chrome mirror.  Only had two left as of today, im sure more will show up.

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Movie...

See this link for a pic of the mirror from the reflective side/rectangular shape, one of the last pics.  Won't post here as it has the nude motorcycle girl.

Yeah it's just a generic el-cheapo aftermarket mirror. Can find them in any general auto parts store. Nowadays they're all made out of plastic.

I have the same mirrors on my '67 Impala.

The VP remake challengers had White body color mirrors on both doors.

Why did the original car have aftermarket mirrors?

Not sure but it may have had to do something with being smaller for the camera shots...  :dunno:

Or maybe they were those fancy supercharged Hemi mirrors that could do 160mph without falling off...  :roflsmiley:

Why did the original car have aftermarket mirrors?

Because the surface area of the mirror glass was larger and a better shape for filming the in-car shots where Kowalski is looking in the mirror,
