Guys,

Is this car still for sale? I am in Australia but have been looking for a 70 Convertible for a while now. If the car is still available I can arrange shipping through a contact I have in Long Beach, Would someone be prepared to take a look and give me an honest opinion on the car. Looking for something that needs restoring as it will be converted to right hand drive here in Australia. All help appreciated.

Regards
Greg.

Hi greg, yes the car is for sale. We were just soo busy during the last 2 months, it was easier just to hold off til the holidays are over. In fact, I was bored yesterday and took 148 new pics of the car. I uploaded them to photobucket for easier viewing.

by the way, the yellow vert in the picture is not for sale.

I'm interested in the car, is the only issue the rust in the trunk floor, if anyone knows?

Just from the pics I can tell you, it needs the trunk pan replaced. As for other areas I couldn't tell ya.

Looking at it from ten foot pictures it appears as if it has all the parts that are hard to find are on the car.  It looks like at one time the driver’s side quarter was partially replaced which is a normal problem area.  Some close ups of the bottom of the quarters and sections in front of the doors closes to the road would be helpful.  Chances are if the trunk is rotted through the inner skirts where water drains will have rust even if the out quarters were replaced.   A weakness in the design where water flowed into space between the inner skirts and the quarters.  Then drained out through the plug seen in one of his photos on the other website.    The issues of the engine smoking and being a 318 car need to be weighted.  If you have to pay import tax and luxury car tax.  Then put $6K into body work and engine stuff you might be better served with a convertible in better shape.  Although the price is good for that amount I’d want a driver.  Obviously from the description you have an engine issue but my trigger point would be close to where it is now if I was buying.  The problem is you will probably drop $15K into it with taxes, repairs and body work.   For that price here you could buy a very finished car.   Tough call!  Of course if you do put that into the car from what I’ve seen in Australian prices you’d have a $70K+ car.  At least that is the prices my brother shares with me when he sends me car pictures from there.

There were no panels repaired on the quarters, they are he original ones to the car. Trunk pan will not need a complete pan replacement, just a patch panel.  The only reason the trunk rusted was from water being trapped under the rubber when it was washed and barely saw rain. As for the smoking motor, could be something like rings, valve guide seals or old gas since it hasn't been driver in a lot of years. If someone wanted to swap a big block or hemi in there, then those parts would have to go anyway. Plus side is those parts could be sold to compensate the Costs. As for other Bert's being cheaper, that's a tuff call. Seen same style ones selling for $40k range and the most recents ones that are done on eBay are in the $70k-$100k range. If cost is an issues, there are plenty of hardtops around and challenger verts to satisfy the needs. On a similar note, the yellow 1971 barracuda vert he has in the pictures was in similar condition and he turned down $55k for it (that's his favorite).
