Well we made it through it ok. Yard is a mess, but all my trees stayed up. Power flickered several times but never went out. Really got lucky! I see NY and NJ are a mess. I hope everybody on here is ok.

We made out good at the house in PA. One good water leak at the back slider nad that was it, we never lost electric.  I am not sure how the house at the shore is.  Power and phone is out, roads are still closed so I can't get down yet.  I have gotten conflicting reports on possible damage so anxiety is still high.  I have been working on since the beginning of summer to be able to rent it out next season.  might be all wasted now.

I see some post on FB also from friends so I'm happy, it looks like only a few issues for most.

I hate to ***** about those that are living through the mess right now, but watching the news tonight I kept hearing about people complaining for food and water. Wheres my supplies? I have a 2 year old and I cant leave my house. We have no food or water. Where's FEMA? Wheres the government? etc etc.
Too many people made no preparations, and now they think everyone else should bail them out. So typical. I understand that many cant help themselves, but you can bet that most are perfectly able bodied people with plenty of resources.

Granted, I live in hurricane alley, but as I have always heard, and you know it was all over the news for days and days ahead of time:
ALWAYS HAVE AT LEAST 3 DAYS SUPPLY OF FOOD AND WATER FOR EACH PERSON.

Also, if you live in remote areas, it could be weeks before power is restored to your home. I once waited 6 weeks after hurricane andrew. Never hurts to take advantage of relatives to live with for a short while to be more comfy.

I hope everyone is ok.     We lost power for about 8 hrs total on amd off. Flooding and down trees around here but not that bad. We got water in the kitchen thru the dryer vent , I just put a bucket under it and stuck a towel in the vent.

I know there are a lot of Classic car owners in NJ....
 I agree with Tommyg.
This is the second time on TV a reporter interviewed a woman raging about no power. yet it was her tree that brought the power lines down.
She said "Power company shower up looked at tree and left". Power company will not touch wires until tree is removed.
People lost everything and she needs electricity.
Most of the trees down wires are property owners.
I spent over $1100 this past spring removed a 50 tree in back yard. Better half was concerned.  Safe than sorry.

Perhaps this might be a little off the mark but as far as reliance on the government I remember watching the news after Hurricane Katrina and a little 8 year old kid was saying things like, "Where is our help?  Were is the government?  This is pathetic." like he was so demanding it wasn't funny.  It wasn't even a plee for help.  It was more like a demand.

I just kept thinking it seems that reliance onn the government starts at a very young age I guess... it could be just the way the media sensationalizes things, but I dunno, it does seem like there is a lot of reliance on the govenment.  Sorry if I'm incorrect.
