I'm in eastern VA on the coast. We're in Portsmouth VA about 25 miles from the beach. Portsmouth and all of Tidewater VA is surrounded by water/tributaries from the Chesapeake Bay. I live on the Elizabeth River on a tidal marsh. The bank on my property is usually about 5 feet above the water at high tide. Now it's only about a foot or less. A lot of areas only a few feet above sea level are now flooded or under water. The winds haven't been too bad and we've not lost power. I think we've already had the worst. I'm prayin' for my friends & family up north on the east coast. Hope you folks get by with out any damage!!!

My umbrella is toast. I went out to lunch today since the cafeteria workers were leaving at 11 AM. (scared-y-cats).

In coming back in to work, and my umbrella blew closed on me. My head was in a cocoon.   :grinyes:   :smilielol:

Makes for quite a visual, doesn't it?

But actually Sandy is no joke.  I was laughing at it all weekend, even this morning, and actually it's quite scary here now.

My sister's kids schools closed on Saturday.  Gov Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency at noon time Saturday.  I thought that was weird, kinda early.  Then all the reports of closings started coming in yesterday.

This morning driving in to work I heard that the New York Stock Exchange was going to close.  Last time that happened was during 9/11.  Now they say not only closed today, but also Tuesday.  Last time that happened was in the 1800's!

Dring home from work I made it back before the big winds started coming but I was already seeing dwoned lines, no power in parts of Boston and lots of big branches down.  I got home about 2:45 today.  I pray for the safety of all the emergency workers out there right now as there are lots of police cars and fire engines out as I drove home.

God is good.  Last night fired up Super Blue first time in about 8 months, fired up no problems.  It's usually parked under a maple that is notorious for droppind big branches during storms so I though I better move it.  Today was no exception.

I moved it to the most open  area of the back yard about 40-feet from the base of the tree to the other side of the yard but it still did not escape a tree branch. The big end of the branch thank God went into the ground and the top branches were resting against the Challenger.

It was about 8 feet long.  I checked the glass, none broken thank God.  The way it fell it is now protected my car from any further damage from dropped branches.  The gutter on the back porch is not so fortunate though...

The way the wind is blowing it feels like at anytime the windows are going to implode...

What is it about these idiotic weather reporters some fool on the weather channel is standing on a dock in the midlle of the harbor reporting the conditions! One good gust of wind or wave and his ass is in the drink! I don`t care so much for his well being since he wants to be foolish but he is putting his life and the lives of bystanders and first responders at risk just to tell us it`s windy outside!

So far for me the wind and rain hasn`t been too bad I assume the worst is still yet to come. One tree limb did wipe out a portion of my daughters swing set easy fix no big deal.If thats the worst for me i`ll be lucky!
I did grab an issue of Muscle car review for when I eventually do lose power and go off the grid! A couple nice Mr. Norms Mopars on the cover a 70 Chally T/A six pack, and a 68 Dart GSS. I can hardly wait to lose power!

Got out of work at the usual 3:30 and the roads were pretty empty.Filled the Jeep up with gas and got home, only had to dodge some tree limbs and such.no big trees at the new house so only real woory is losing the power as the generator is`nt hooked up-I need to order a trasnfer switch and get it wired in.

From an old hurricane veteran down here in Miami, I wish you all good luck. I went directly through Andrew and Katrina, and even this one when it was developing. I happened to experience the birth of Sandy down in the Caribbean sea about 10 days ago, and a lady fell overboard on our cruise ship! We diverted to get her to port (she looked like she hurt her neck from what I saw of her) after her rescue at sea, which took about 2 hours finding her in the middle of the night, but thats another story.

Remember that most deaths occur AFTER the storm has passed, from downed powerlines, overflowing rivers/mudslides, traffic accidents (stoplights out), falling off roof during repairs, etc. In fact, I lost a friend to a car accident two days after Andrew in 1992. Signals were out. So you can count on the fact that many idiots will be out that dont understand the rules of the road.
Be careful out there!!

Now they have issued blizzard warnings for the mountainous areas of the state with this big cold front that is wrapping in around the hurricane system. Parts of Northern VA & West VA (and other areas) may get several FEET of snow. Get out the snow shovel!!  :crying:

Got lucky on thàt one. As long as the trees stay put, my family & all my junk will survive. Still got all nite yet they are saying. Goodluck everybody, stay safe & god bless
