So far I've pulled the torsion bar on the driver side, loosened the power steering gearbox, and it still won't go in.   :banghead:

I think I'll need to pull the motor to get those damn things on.   :pullinghair:

anyone have any insight into this install?  Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

Chris
Have you tried to go up from the bottom?

Also un bolting the motor mounts and lifting the motor up and over to one side could help  :dunno:

I've always done them at the same time toe motor was installed.. Good luck.

I needed to remove my trans cooling lines, and then with the gearbox loosened, I was able to finally slip it into position on the drivers side.  The passenger side went in easy, but its nearly impossible to access the bolts to tighten it up!   :eek2:   I got them in with my fingers, but I'll be damned if I can get a wrench in there to tighten them up....   I'll try to finish up tonight.

Now I just need to get this thing wired up to the battery and fill the fluids....

Yep, there are a couple of bolts that are a b1tch to get to.  I use a modified wrench to tighten them.  Take an old wrench and heat it up and bend it so you can get it in there.

Man I hope I don't have to resort to that, but anything to make it easier.

Thanks for the tip.

Did the headers on my 6.1 three damn times - some of the bolts are a complete nightmare...   lots of cussing and yelling those days.

I had to heat up and bend a wrench, it worked pretty easy after that.

Thanks for the Tip  67vertman!!

Can you post a pic of the wrench? I have a 6.1l going in my 70 and plan on running the factory set charger manifolds as I am told they will fit. If not I will resort to building a set

I just took an old 7/16" or 3/8" open end wrench, (I don't remember the exact size, just check it on one of the bolt heads), and stuck the box end in the vice and turned on the torch.  I bent the wrench about 2" down from the open end.    I guess that means I bent it almost in half, since the whole thing is only about 4.5" long....  well, that's what she said anyway...

I'll try to post a pic if i can find that wrench.

Yep! the old modified wrench tip, works every time.  In a few years you will pick up that wrench and wonder why its bent.  :smilielol:
