My journey through a snow storm was worth while!
« on: March 02, 2005 - 05:45:27 AM »
I and a freind traveled from Northwestern Ohio to northeast of Pittsburg, PA yesterday in one heck of a nerve racking snow storm. At the time we were actually going to look at a 67 Dart GTS conv. with a Hemi shoved in the engine compartment. After looking at a hopeless basket case the seller takes us to a friends house who has a few X-brand vehicles for sale. We look these over and came to the conclusion that this may have been a wasted trip. That's when this guys friend came home early from work and we talked and look all the cars over one more time. That's when, you've got to love those Chevy/ Ford lovers, this guy says "I take it you like those Dodges....I have one sitting in the corner of my shop" . And off we go to this guys shop! In the corner, covered with parts, sat a 71 Challenger. Ralleye red/ primer in very good condition. After some negotiations and a few nerviously smoked cigs, the deal was made. we loaded the Challenger up and headed for home, fish tailing and sliding all the way( about 7 1/2 Hrs)!!! I'll post some pic's later today.  I just love Challengers!!!

Great story Fishn!  And, welcome to the board!  Please post pics when you can!!  What's the engine size?  And, is it an R/T?  Very cool find!

Now that is a great story.  Impulse buys are the best.  Best of luck with her.  I can't wait to see some pics.  BTW, welcome to the board.

OK here's some pics. Blowing snow kept us from unloading her today. I took some time going through the trunk and found some awesome goodies!!!! Even though this is a 71 the previous owner collected alot of 70 parts: two grills with bezels, alot of misc, and the grand daddy prize... a perfect 70 4-spd console with woodgrain insert. I think E-Bait will be absorbing all of the purchase price. The engine is a 360, auto 727, and an 8 3/4 with possibly 3.23 posi. I'll keep you posted as I progress. I'm 16 again...woo hoo!!! :dogpile

Here's one accidents we witnessed on the way back. A jeep cheroke ice skating on it's side right in front of us. Luckily no one was hurt.

Tire sale place near where I grew up had a bunch of these in their attic left over from some promotion back in the late 80's - early 90's for B.F. Goodrich tires. Since he knew me very well he sold me these two for $50.00 each.
