horsepower opinion?
« on: November 17, 2012 - 04:19:37 PM »
I never had my 70 440 on the dyno but I'm wondering if anyone has a similar set up that has been on the dyno what would be a good guess as to my horsepower. KB pistons at 9.8 to 1, Edelbrock Performer RPM closed chamber heads, Performer RPM intake with 750 Holley, Comp Xtreme Energy .491/230 cam, roller rockers, TTI 1/78 headers and Mopar Performance Electronic ignition. Also a 3/8 fuel pickup and lines. I'm sold on fuel injection but I'm wondering if I should upgrade the fuel pump to a high HP unit. Some systems will support 525 HP without upgrading. I don't think it's a good idea to have a fuel system that is operating right on the edge of it's flow capacity. What do you think?

I don't want to break your heart but I have seen similar combos as low as 220 RWHP & maybe close to 260 RWHP
the reality is it is just a # , RWHP is the lowest , Net is in the middle & gross as they were rated until 72 was the most optomistic # I can tell you if you can get 400 RWHP on a Mustang dyno you are in supercar territory , I have built a few with 400 RWHP in street cars nothing with M series , AMG etc will be close , you just drive away like they are standing still
I agree on the EFI , I like to see the system run 60-80 % range , you do not want to go lean @ WOT

I agree Chryco, I have no illusions that this motor is any where near what would be considered high horsepower. I was just trying to get an idea on what the crank HP might be close to. Is their a rule of thumb as to converting RWHP to crank HP?
