4 Post Lift Installation Advice & Pics

I'm not asking, I'm offering. I'm almost done assembling this one, (one more to go) & one thing for sure, it's FRIGGEN' HEAVY!!  :eekbig:

I could have paid an additional $175 each to have them installed, but a few reasons I decided to do it myself were:

1) I saved some money.

2) More importantly than the money, is if I know exactly how it goes together & it breaks, troubleshooting it will be much easier.

3) I like to do things myself as much as possible, & putting this together is more exciting than wet sanding.

My advice though, is don't even consider doing it without an overhead hoist or at least 3 or 4 other people to help. Most of my friends are not nearby, & any family members are all out of state. (I'd rather they stay away anyway.) The overhead chain hoist worked out great, & I don't think a floor standing cherry picker would get adequate height to lift it.

All that's left on this one is to install the air lines & the casters, tighten up some misc. items & plug it in. It's a Bend Pak, HD-9 with a 9000 pound rating. I ordered the drip pans for both & one set of casters, but held off on the jacking tray. I figure for the amount of times I need to get the wheels up in the air I can do it from the floor, or place the stands on the runways.

Here's the place I bought them from, & they discounted each one $100 because I bought 2 of them. http://www.e-autolifts.com/index.html Shipping is included with the price, & that alone was over $500 from another lift company. They can deliver to your home, but since there is limited access to my house for a truck, I decided to pick them up at the local Yellow Freight terminal.

This has been the main reason I haven't been able to finish test fitting the '71 Barracuda grille & trim. Maybe in a week or so I'll be back onto that project & post some pics of it.

I really wish we had a lift.  One question, where in the world did you get the banner of that pink chally?  I HAVE TO GET ONE!!!!!  You better keep your garage door locked up tight since I know you live only a few minutes away from me!!!!!!  That banner just may get kidnapped (or would that be bannernapped??).

Okay, Atlanta isn't too far, I'll wait for you to do the second one & beer & pizza is on me.

The lifts are a lot more affordable than they used to be. This one is a wider version, which is a little more money, but I'm a firm believer in bigger is better. Not a "macho" kind of thing, it's a "I'm sick of the cramped spaces" kind of thing. You can get the narrow one, the HD-9ST, delivered for under $2500 from the same place. I gave consideration to adding to the garage, but 2 lifts were a lot cheaper.

The banner was given to me by a good friend 2 Christmases ago. He also gave me a lime green '70 Hemi Cuda banner, which is on the other door. MAybe you can see it in the picture below? I can ask him where he ordered them from, but don't know if they're still available. Anyway, if mine is missing I'll know where to look.

Those cars were used in BF Goodrich Radial T/A  tire ads if I remember correctly.
At the time when they ran the advertisements in the magazines there was a blurb on the bottom about ,"for a full size poster/banner send $$ to such+such address"

Dave,
I'm not going to bolt either one to the floor, & got one set of casters for them. Casters were a $250 option, & I can only move one at a time anyway. If I got a 2 post lift I'd have lost the mobility of them since they must be anchored. I can swap the casters from one to the other, & move them to wherever it's more convenient. (See layout below for what I'm planning to set up) I'm mostly using them for parking & need to get the workshop side of the garage back. It will be nice to move one over to the work area from time to time & do something under the car without laying flat on my back.

Thanks for the compliments everyone, I waited what seems like an eternity to have a decent garage, & not use the gravel driveway or the Cover-It tent I had before it. Now that I have the space & some toys to put in it, the savings account will have to catch up so I can get a few things done to the cars.

Real nice set up  I've been thinking of adding a lift at the "barn", but the area that it would be installed is somewhat limited in width area, it currently has a full length pit, can you provide the outside dimensions of your model and the narrower model so I can determine even if I can fit it into my situation, I don't think height will be a problem. Thanks.

The web site has a good page with all the dimensions.

There's even a single post lift, but it's more expensive & has a smaller weight capacity.

Mine is the wider, HD-9 at 120-3/4" at the widest point which is the floor plate.

They've got a small catalog with a whole bunch of cars done up like that banner. You can get them in either banner or poster size.
The poster on my garage wall is one I ordered from them.

If anyone's interested I can pull the guide out and scan in a few pics and check prices.
