One great thing about living in the USA is that a person's destiny is not given to them, it is constructed by them.

.,

And so much of the experience acquired over time congeals all the skills necessary for that one unique job you never even thought of doing for a career.

Then one day it presents itself. And you and them find each other to be a perfect fit.
I meet alot of unique people in unique professions. I ask them..."How in the heck did you get such a cool job"

It goes back to what I say.

Isn't that the truth.

I make guitars and send them all over the world. That blows my mind.

Computer Desktop Support since August 2001. My official title is Senior Technician, i'm one of five techs in my unit.

We troubleshoot desktop computer issues (network connectivity, printing, scanning) as well as the occasional "...forgot my password...",  and " ...just saved my document and now I can't find it..." client emergencies :1zhelp:

+1 on everyone's contrib.'s, thus far. To the OP, my late brother-in-law was one of the wisest men I have ever known. An iron worker by trade, he ventured into structural engineering. Anyway, as well off as he was, on more than one ocassion he told me / lamented, "If I could do it over again, I'da gone into HVAC or elevator maint/repair." I thought he was pullin' my leg at the time and, when I questioned his sincerity, he replied, "Futuristics dude; you should look it up sometime . . . no matter what else happens on this rock we call Earth, people are going to need 3 types of specialists and two of them will be to control the climate and address the reality that eventually, all new construction will be UP!" (The guy could look like a giant hillbilly until he opened his mouth but, he was a genius!)

So, in addition to all the preceding and excellent advice, I will add that I too would give strong consideration to HVAC, seeing how well my buddies who got into after high school are doing now . . .

(The third type specialist for which demand will only increase as the future rolls along? Sanitation and waste disposal.  (Already a LOT of moolah in that and there will only be more in the future!)

Best o' success!

Agreed, he sounds smart. I will second the HVAC insudtry, more specifically on the commercial and industrial side of things as it provides steady year round work. Coolers and ice machines need to work year round. On a side note I will add to all you young people out there who know better - wear knee protection while crawling or kneeling, after 20 plus years I have a hard time walking some days and am looking to change careers cause mine are so bad now.

I am employed since 1999 in an airport where I keep the aircraft parking arrangement and flight weather observations. This year I have temporary worked in a smaller airport's operation center, but will return to my old job in January.
