71 Challenger R/T project

[7071 challenger]

Hi everyone...  Here is my 71 Challenger R/T projct. The car is a real R/T (JS23N1BXXXXXX), 383 Magnum automatic. It was originally a GY3 (curious yellow) car, but I will change the color to FC7 (plum crazy). I am also converting it from automatic to manual. Other options I am adding are: Power disc brake,(originally manual drums), rallye wheels, (came with body color steel wheel and small hubcaps), and a rim blow steering wheel. As you can see, the rear of the car was in bad shape. Quarter panels, rear floor pans, trunk floor and extentions, dutchman and the trunk lid have all been replaced. The front of that car was incredibly solid, (still wears it's original inner fenders, front fenders, cowl dash. doors, rocker panels, front floor pans and rear and front frame rails and all those componants were very solid. The undercarriage, engine compartment, cockpit and trunk compartment should be painted by the first week of december and the car should be back on wheels and the body should be painted and back home early january. The work looks great.Which shop is doing the work?Or are you doing the work?I think that you should keep it Curious Yellow you dont see many in that color.Keep posting pics of progress.Sam

No, I am not doing any of the body work, but I am handling everything else. The shop is in Canada in the province of Quebec in a shop called "Atelier 202". The guy working on my car does magic!!!  I thought a lot about putting it back Curious yellow, but since it is only a 383 car, I will put it Plum Crazy, (a color I really like). If it was a Six Pack or Hemi, I would put it back exactly like the built sheet, but, again, because it's a 383 car, I will put it the way I like, (that's why I will put the 15 X 7 rallyes, and the four speeds, and the rim blow...) but I will do it like the factory would have built it. The options I am adding are gonna be correct for the car.

It was at the time the picture was taken. I sold it to restore the Challenger.

Almost everything is ready to put back in. I restored/repaired/painted/cleaned up about every parts while the car was at the body shop, (since August 2012). So, when the car will be back home from the body shop, the re-assembly should go nice and smooth. I will post pics as things progresses.

Interior will be black, and the stripes will also be black. It will have only the R/T logo on the hood, no blackout, chrome mirrors, and the flip top gas cap. As you can see, there was a wing on the deck lid, but it won't be back. The car wasn't born with it and it didn't have the plates underneat to hold hold in place.

I understand what you guys are saying. I saw the car, (in yellow), everyday for a couple of months and I just don"t like it. And this summmer, I saw a couple of cars in GY3 and that didn't make me change my mind. Again, if it was a six pack or hemi ot T/A, I would probably put it back yellow, but most people don't care too much about a 383 car. I don"t feel it will decreases its value because of that. It's a little like not having the matching number engine, (by the way, the 383 I have is not the matching one). I,m 45 now and I am no millionaire, so, it will probably be the last car I built and I want to have it the way I would have order it new. I like originality, but, for exemple, manual front drum brakes makes no sense to me...That's why I will add a few options, but these options are gonna be correct if they would have been installed by the factory. You may or may not agree with my point and I don't judge that. But since I am the one paying for the restoration, I feel I have the right to put it the way I want. No offense guys, but it will be Plum crazy...

Im with ya robert, factory resto's are great, but lets all be real here, everyone who participates in this hobby does it for the love of the cars, and if your love is plum crazy, then love away.

once the #-guys start sending in funds for resto, you could reconsider color....
