I understand what you guys are saying. I saw the car, (in yellow), everyday for a couple of months and I just don"t like it. And this summmer, I saw a couple of cars in GY3 and that didn't make me change my mind. Again, if it was a six pack or hemi ot T/A, I would probably put it back yellow, but most people don't care too much about a 383 car. I don"t feel it will decreases its value because of that. It's a little like not having the matching number engine, (by the way, the 383 I have is not the matching one). I,m 45 now and I am no millionaire, so, it will probably be the last car I built and I want to have it the way I would have order it new. I like originality, but, for exemple, manual front drum brakes makes no sense to me...That's why I will add a few options, but these options are gonna be correct if they would have been installed by the factory. You may or may not agree with my point and I don't judge that. But since I am the one paying for the restoration, I feel I have the right to put it the way I want. No offense guys, but it will be Plum crazy...

Same here.  The numbers matching cars are great and I enjoy seeing them restored to their original factory specs, but prefer to mod my own cars to suit my use and taste.  Color is the most important option on any car, and its no accident that Plum Crazy was the most popular color from the factory on 70 Challenger R/Ts.  Hardly surprising, as it is a great color and works so well on a Challenger.

From what I've seen at car shows, Plum Crazy remains the most popular color.  The downside is if you are big into car shows, something off the beaten path like GY3 is going to stand out and be far more rare than another Plum Crazy car.  The upside is most people, including me, prefer the look of Plum Crazy, so if you ever need to sell the car, it will probably be easier to sell with such a highly desirable color.

Since your car is never going to be numbers matching, and like most of us you only get to have one of them, totally agree with making it the color that YOU want.

Its a question of personal taste. On one side, I would be the first, (at the car show) looking at the fender tag and think to myself "Too bad it didn't come FC7 from the factory". And I know many Mopar dudes will tell me so, and I totally understand their point. And you guys are right, Plum crazy is probably the color you see the most at any Mopar car show. On the other hand, you don't see many classic Mopar on the road and from those you see, they are not all Plum crazy, and a Challenger in Plum Crazy is a real head turner. Like some of you said, it is not matching number and it won't be again. So, I am adding the options I like, (well, at least a couple). Options I am adding that are not on the broadcast sheet are: 1)Plum Crazy  2) 4 speed manual tranny, (came automatic), 3) Rim blow wheel 4)Power disc brakes, (originally manual drums) 5) Passenger side chrome mirror 6) 15 X 7 rallye wheels 7) Filp top gas cap  and, if the budget permits and if I find some; Wide eye brow front mouldings. And probably an AM/FM radio.

Yes I agree with you it is not a 440 6 pac,or a hemi car I have 2 383 e bodies and I have changed them both ,on  is a barracuda and mine like yours had alot of sheet metal replaced among other things and that right there makes it far from original ,so paint it,and put what ever engine you want and use the Bob Ross quote...."its your world"

I love seeing these things come back to life.  I had the same color challenges.  Mine was originally a Gold car and I thought long and hard about leaving it the original color.  In the end, I always wanted a Plum Crazy car so that is what it became.

A few more pics added. There is some Plum crazy on the car now... Slowly but surely...It should be ready, (well, at least the paint job), early january 2013.

Well, for a few reasons. First, my body man is not a Mopar specialist, so he doesn't have a rear dollie, so I had to re-install the rear suspension when we were done with the rotisserie,(There is a dollie in the front). I decided to re-install the front-to-rear fuel and brake lines while the car was on the rotisserie because it was so much easier. My body man said he will put the car on jack stands when he will paint the car and he will also tape and protect underneath to prevent any fume to reach the rear axle and floor pans, ect...   Maybe it is not the right way to do it. Hey, I never said I was perfect!!!

I just found this post.  Great job.     Your body man is doing a fantastic job.     BTW, I also installed my rear end and front suspension before painting the outside of the car for pretty much the same reasons you quoted.  We masked off the underside and didn't have any problem with over spray getting on the suspension parts.  Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks USRAPTR.  I will go to the body shop on the 26th, I will help the guy re-install and adjust the doors, fenders, hood and trunk lid. He said  that the inner portion of those parts are painted. The outer portion of those parts are pretty much ready for paint. So, after everything is installed and adjusted, there will be a little preparation before final paint. He said he should paint it between Xmas and new year's day, and he will take another week for buffing. The car should be back home mid-january.
