New UR Dash Pad Pics
« on: November 24, 2012 - 06:24:44 AM »
Hi Guys,

I just ordered a new dashpad through Dave at Roseville, great guy BTW. Really looking forward to getting it and was wondering if someone had a new black UR dashpad they could post a couple pics of it.

Thanks,
Brian

What do you want to see?

You'll have to trim some foam and vinyl away from where the light bar attaches.  You'll have to get it down to the bare frame so the push nuts will go back on.  I also had to section a sliver of foam out of where the left hand lower dash trim attaches.  It was a little thick so the trim wouldn't slide over it.

If the left/right lower dash trim doesn't fit very well, you can carefully heat them up with a heat gun and mould them into shape.  I had to do that with the right hand trim.  It moves easily when its heated up.  If you get it a little too hot, the plastic can bubble.  Heat it from the back side so if it does bubble, you don't ruin the grain pattern.

I'm not sure what you want to see but I found some pics that might help you(or someone else) get their UR pad fitting better.  You may or may not have to do this to your pad.  I think every one of them is a little different.

Original center speaker opening....no vinyl down inside rectangular opening.

Had to trim vinyl/foam out of this area so the speaker cover would fit.  Screw holes were also off and had to redrill them.

This is a bad pic but it shows the right hand side of the dash where it lines up with the dash frame.(the frame is on the top...the pad is on the bottom)  The red lines should be lined up.  There is a lot of excess foam where the blue arrow is pointing.  By trimming the foam away on the inside, the pad will move to the left and line up closer to the dash frame.

Thanks.  That's good info.  Dave indicated it would be several weeks before mine ships.  But this helps me understand the process a bit better.

I got mine from Dave too.  :2thumbs:
Mine was pretty close to the pictures. Not quite as bad on the side trim, didn't have to trim any foam in this area. The speaker grill area could have used some trimming but I close to grind down the speaker grill screw bosses till it fit. 2 of the screw holes didn't line up either.  I chose to mod the grill figuring in time there might be less chance of the pad splitting if I left the speaker area as is?  :dunno:

Thanks for posting those Burdar.

That was way better pics info than I was expecting. Was initially just looking for a couple of pics of a new dash installed. Other than some trimming are you happy with the dash? Would you buy it again?
The new dash will be the last piece of my interior.

Thanks,
Brian

The dash looks nice but it doesn't look like a factory original piece.  The grain pattern isn't right and the color is too flat.  (My original dash was very glossy)  I just applied some vinyl dressing to the pad and it looks a lot better...still not quite as glossy as the original one but a lot better.

This is right after I installed it.  You can see that the pad is a lot flatter then the plastic side trim.(almost looks gray instead of black) It looks better now with some vinyl dressing on it.

Thanks for posting another pic.
Yeah its a little flat but overall looks great. My pad isn't to bad but it's hard as a rock and has a couple of cracks that make me nuts. I'm sure the UR pad will be a big improvement over what I have.

 :2cents:
what i can tell you is the grain is better than Just dashes, as for the sheen, comparing 40 +yr old to new product and not having an NOS pad to check against is always in question,
the 2 known areas are the speaker grille and the light bar area that need trimmed. this is basically due to the vacuum forming, the right and left sides of the Dash that Darren pointed out are hit and miss, i have installed 5 pads with 2 more on the way and inspected way more than i can remember but each have a variation, some have had one side issues or the other. if your plastic is warped and not realized it is easy to blame the pad for the problem,
over all i am happy with these pads and glad many customers are also, ( and thank you to all that have ) other wise i would not be selling them or would not want to deal with crappy product.
